Ahh I just got a call from the computer shop yea its my motherboard.

Hes going to replace it with an Abit board but he doesn't know which.

Well 179.99 total thats nuts. Canadian.

140 for the board and 40 for the doings.

Next time guys I ADVISE YOU TO WEAR 3M Non-static WRIST STRAPS SO YOU DO NOT SHOCK ANYTHING.

If it was thing to shock it was my motherboard jeezes.

I was right.. believe me, the most important part is the mobo and critical part where it can easily be damaged. It is not hard to damage the mobo. Been there and done that.
I am sorry that it has happened to you. Bummer..

I can't figure out how you managed to shock your Mb to death. We only got the anti-static wristbands at where I work 2 months ago, and half the time I forget it at home (due to the fact that I forget I'm wearing it when I leave work), and I've never fried a MB with a static charge. Maybe you're just one of those unlucky people that's prone to retaining a static charge.

I think at the time I was wearing a fleece since I just came out of from the cold Canada weather(You must know what its like CrystalM since your 2 hours away).

And I did this with my fleece on so it does conduct some static.

Thats life and I can't do anything in the past.

Motherboards these days can withstand a surprising amount of abuse. I ripped a transistor off my Intel board with a screwdriver, and it ran fine. My friend (who's either a savage or high) cleaned my board and a friends with a featherduster. Ran fine as well. Usually, when a mobo dies, it was probably a dud in the first place.

Agreed Bonka.

Lets see, I accidently poured rubbing alcohol all over my motherboard by accident. Worked fine.

My cousin had the same incident he was putting on his heatsink and the screwdrive slipped and put 3 scratches in the motherboard it still worked fine.

They do take alot of abuse and still work fine LOL :D

I have never once killed a motherboard due to static shock, well i have never killed a board period, but i have dumped 24 ounces of pepsi on it while it was running, oh i dropped a screw in between two PCI slots and tried to get it with some metal tweezers whit it was running and as soon as i got close to the card i seen a little current from the card to my tweezers and the computer turned off instantly but i unplugged it and it booted right back up..i won't even go into how many times I've rammed a screw drive into trying to put a heat sink on it..oh drooped a waterblock on and chipped it...ummm thats all i can think of off the top of my head :D

LOL Talk about abuse...

I'm surprised the water block did not take out the motherboard :D

I'm surprised the Pepsi didn't ruin it... wasn't it all sticky and what not after words? how did you take care of it?

eh?

the waterblock uprooted one of the gold wires running around every where but she still runs fine. And not only the motherboard but the case the harddrive and the nic was sticky as hell :D but all still worked:D

even something as small as a screwdriver nick can break an important trace and cause crashes/hangups/BSOD etc....

I've even seen on a DFI socket 370 board where the HS clip was touching the board and broke a trace (probably on initial installation) and the system would just automatically reboot at random intervals

Very weird CPU stories..

Let's see if I drop it off a building it'll still work! :)

I think my favorite story is one a friend of mine told me. He repairs computers for a living and once went to a lady's house to look at her pc, which had quit working. He opened the case and to his surprise there was a sticky, stanky, yellow substance all over the motherboard, etc. Turns out the lady has a cat and it had ****ed through a vent in the case.

I've never fried a mb myself, but I've heard dozens of other people tell me about their experiences with motherboards and static electricity - that's why I always ground myself BEFORE sticking anything inside my case. I also make sure to take off any clothing which collects static electricity before working on a computer.

LOL thats a funny story.

I had a fleece on so that is static conductive.

Oh well you can't change the past.
