Start 400 grit.

Starting 600 grit gets a little soft.

Well its a good plan although could be a waste of time going beyond 5000 since 5000 and 12,000 you'll barely notice any difference.

I mean DodgeViper did an excellent job of his and he only went 2000 grit or so and finished it with some polish.

Good Luck Man.

my idea is that you may not see any difference but it will moast likely be there also i am thinking of polishing up the die but i don't want to risk damaging i think the raised letters on the die are hindering the performance they should put that stuff on the chip not the die

well just food for thought but going above 2000 grade paper is pointless because according to my understanding (im a panelbeater ,,maybe in the states you call that an 'Autobody repairer) we use 1500 and 2000 for polishing 2 pak finishes which is whats used in the oven and that needs very fine paper when buffing as its difficult to remove the scratches made by the paper. im just trying to save you the effort and not gain anything afterwards, and just look at a GODD 2pak sprayjob and know that it has probably been buffed in places to remove the blend -in area where we start from as the suface dries up by the time we get back to that side again!
(sorry i tried to put it in as few words as i could. LOL)

Yodums, thanks for the nice words. I don’t that anything will be gained going beyond 2000 grit paper. Maybe some blood blisters though.

Just make sure you clean your entire lapping area between changing grits of paper. I started with 600 and worked up to 1500. Followed with SimiChrome polished/acetone/ASll.

I found that going above 1200 Grit was pointless. Unless of course you can get your HSF to sit PERFECTLY level, there's no real point to going any further. But, I'd like to see the finished product anyways. I went all the way up to 6000 Grit. Nice and shiny, but no improvement on temps.
