Right now I have 2 drives :

150GB Raptor ADFD
160GB Seagate Baracuda 7200.7

What I'm looking for is the best price : storage ratio. I'm willing to sacrfice performance if it means getting more bang for my buck in the storage area.

I'm looking at - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152100. It's the 750GB samsung 7200rpm 32mb cache. 120$ for 750GB is the best I've found so far. Thoughts / opinions on this drive?

The other two drives I was considering were :
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136218 - 640GB Western Digital Carvier

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148288 - 500GB 7200.11 Baracuda. Is the firmware problem still an issue for this drive or is that fixed now?

What are your guys' opinions on the 1TB drives? They seem slow and not really a great price : storage ratio. The cheapest 1TB drive I saw was a little over 200$. I figured I'd be better off with 2 of the 640GB carviers if I was planning on spending over 200$.

I'm open to any suggestions and I'm willing to try a RAID if you guys think that would be beneficial. Just looking for some feedback, thanks :)

The Hitachi is a little cheaper here at ZZF

I ordered 3 of these and with shipping it came out to be $20 less than the egg.

The western digital and seagate 7200.11 you have mentioned have faster transfer speeds ( they only have 2 platters )

I just purchased all 3 of these drives and liked the 500gb seagate the best, great price at ZZF as well.

The 500gb seagates I received did NOT have any firmware bug, it seems to mostly be in the 750gb drives.

640GB WD is supposed to be fast and silent. Atleast the 1TB samsung F1 seems to be causing grief to people, I would steer clear from them for the time being. Seagates are generally ok at everything but dont excell in anything... I got a 1TB WD GP today, mainly because I need the full terabyte and wanted a silent disk.
