Hey guys,

I’m having a bit of trouble at the moment. I've been asked to build a computer for my uncle and this is the build I came up with:

Processor: Core2Quad Q6600 G0 2.4Ghz with Freezer 7 Pro
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P35-D3SL
RAM: 2 x 1Gb OCZ 5-5-5-15 PC2-6400
Hard Drive: Samsung Spinpoint 500Gb
PSU: Hiper 530W
Graphics: 8800GT 512Mb
Disk Drive: Sony DVD Reader/Burner
OS: Vista Home Premium

Now, I received it all today, and have put it together, but am currently having a problem with one of the RAM sticks.

At first it wouldn't boot at all, so I took out one of the sticks and everything is fine. I also upped the voltage by 0.2v.

Whenever I put the other stick in, I get A BSOD on bootup. It doesnt matter what slot I put it in, it doesnt work.

ANy idea why this is? How can I test to see if I've recieved a dodgy stick?

Thanks alot for your help in advance :)

Run memtest86 (http://www.memtest86.com/download.html) from DOS. You'll have to create a floppy disk with it and boot up from the floppy disk.

Test 1 stick at a time using default voltages and settings. If one of the sticks is bad, you'll get tons of errors.

Downside is you'll have to RMA both sticks . Upside is you'll get 2 new sticks for your setup.

Thanks for the reply. Only problem is I don't have a floppy drive as I thought I wouldn't need one due to flash mem sticks n'all :P

I've just seen the guide to using memtest though so I'll give it a go using a CD or something. Thanks :)

memtest86 can also be burned to a CD, there is a ISO image to do that on their site.

Yup, I should've added that. My bad :)

Xanado, it would be better if you sent both sticks in, that way you get the matching set back. Sometimes when you send only 1 stick in from a set, the return will not match up and you'll run into more trouble than it's worth.

right, when ever you RMA dual channle ram, always send back both sticks.
