No shocker that it beat the holy hell out of Halo 3... But it also beat Iron Man and Pirates of the Caribean: At World's End combined. It's first day was bigger than Wrestlemania and possibly even bigger than the Superbowl. And of course it smashed any game record that ever existed.

Congrats to Rockstar and Take Two. Maybe now THEY can buy EA...

Of course it beat Halo 3! Halo 3 was exclusive... not multiplat. I dont think anyone was surprised it beat Halo 3. Yes grats to R*, 500 million.. wow!

Halo 3 did 300 million.
(I wonder what Halo 3 would have done if it was mulitplat)

I do like GTA4 more than Halo 3 myself though.

And THATS it, THATS why EA wanted to buy them before GTAIV came out, they wanted that $$$.
I wonder how many PS3s/Xbox 360s were sold just because of this game.

That must be about what analysts were expecting. Take Two's stock is still hovering within a quarter of $26. EA's offer seems right on the money..

Freakdiablo, if EA bought them today, they would 'get' that money. The offer price on the takeover bid took predicted sales into account..

And the Academy Award for "Most Mentions of Halo 3 in a Single Post IN a Thread About Grand Theft Auto IV" goes to...!

It's not surprising that the launch of a game can beat movie tickets sales. It does not cost $60 to buy a movie ticket.

No. But there USED TO BE a hell of a lot more movie-goers than gamers. What's significant about this is that those days aren't just done:

They're DUN-DONE.

I don't know. I think there are a lot more movie goers than gamers. I mean, if one were to look at how many tickets sold vs copies of GTA IV sold in their first two days, I think it would be pretty close, but I think Iron Man or something would win.

But my point was he's saying games cost more ($60 as opposed to $10 on average). I'm saying it used to be movie goers about 10:1 over gamers (especially when you add whole families, older people, etc...) So the amount of money grossed should be even... but it's not. Not anymore. It's slipped down to either 50:50 or a 60:40 slant towards movie goers.

Or even a 3:2 slant!

But seriously I want to thank the academy... the crew behind my post and of course Halo 3. I couldn't have done it without you!
