I have my XP1600 OC'd to 1.53 (10.5x145) now, and prime95 is giving me a rounding error on the first test! temp only went from 43C up to 45C, so it isnt a heat problem. I have crucial ram, its at 2-2-2, should i set it back up to CL 2.5?

set RAM to CL 2.5, got the same error on the first test. grrrrr... any ideas?

Same thing I ran into. I used to think Prime95 is a piece of cow pie and that I don't need it, since everything else runs fine. As it turns out my system wasn't totally stable as other apps started to error out. I bumped my CPU speed down, then Prime95 ran flawlessly overnight. I've never seen any other problems with other apps either. I'd say your CPU has gone over its stable limits. Yes, I know 1533 Mhz isn't that high for a 1600+. Even though some people can get their 1600+ to 1700 mhz, doesn't mean you could. No two CPUs are identicle, you must have a bad one. It's probably something you don't wanna believe, but I'm not sure either. It could be something else, but I'm guessing that.

this is rediculous. I upped the voltage thinking it needed a little more juice. Same error. It's rounding something and I got .499...blah but it "expected less than .4". ...garbage...

It's your memory guarnteed man... My xp1600 does 1533 at 1.75volts and rus prime 95 all day, and all night no problems... At 1607 which I am at now I got up to test 1007 before it crashed due to heat, but I put new washers on my heatsink and no problems yet. The test I use is, if your computer cna run prime 95 for like 5 hours without crashing, then do the 3dmark2001 test.. and if it can complete that a few times without crashing you are pretty stable.. Most xp1600's can probably do xp1800 no problem..

Oh also, just cause it's Crucial doesn't mean it will overclock well :) try setting your memory to 100mhz in your bios and run all the tests again and see if it crashes..

good job slick. when my memory is at 100 mhz, it works fine. ok, but when I set it to 133, the first screen says its 145, my fsb. how can i set it different than my fsb, ive looked all over in the bios, theres no ratio settings, but i thought there was on this board. i have the latest bios.

update:
I toned down my mem timings from "fastest" to "normal". Prime95 is running now, it got past that stupid error in the first test, I'm gonna just let it run...

I guess this proves there's no two components are identical. My Crucial PC2100 can do 160 CAS2, 4-way, etc.. just fine. But my CPU can OC very well.

[i]But my CPU can OC very well. [/B]

I meant to say CAN'T

When you run your memory at 100mhz, you are actually using the 3/4 divider on your memory, so if your running at 133mhz fsb your memory is running at 100mhz, if your running at 146fsb and your memory is set at 100mhz in the bios then your memory is running at 108.75mhz.

This is good to test to see if your memory is holding you back from overclocking. But I must say that memory speed is far more important than mhz on your cpu, espcially when you are already running about 1400mhz stock.. There is little difference betwen 1600mhz and 1400mhz on the cpu. But for memory 30mhz can make a huge difference in memory bandwidth.

Slick.

ooooook, that makes sense, slick. That was the new thing I learned today I guess:D . I'm gonna go tinker around with it some more...
