View Full Version : Converting ATX PSU to bench PSU, need to tweak -12v line

Is there any way I can ramp up available current on the -12v? It's 0.8 amps and even shuts down if I hook a delta fan to it. I'd like to raise that current limit if possible. Any ideas?

Nevermind, I'll probably tie in a 12/24v upconverter.

For those that want to see what has been done so far:
Old caps are yellow, new ones black. I replaced a few that didn't really need replacing, just to be safe.

Black is ground of course, the rest are identified by wire color.

haha sounds just like my rc cars.... see that 6 cell NIMH bat only putting out 40amps continuous @ 7.5v only spinning the 5700kv brushless motor 42,000 rpms.... that same motor when you can feed it 125amps continous at 11.1 v = INSANE ammounts of fun

wtf,,llol
so can we mod our PSU for more power by replacing some caps, or we stand to blow some other parts of it?
lets overclock out PSU's!

lol no it sounds like he replaced caps on a psu that had bad caps and is now using the psu as a fan tester general use psu of sorts...

Yes, that's right. It's not changing the power characteristics, just fixing it and future-proofing it a little at the same time :)

You can't increase the power/energy output by changing caps. You have to change a lot more including tweaking the PWM loop, OCP, OVP and OPP. :)
