All right just kidding, I know they are crap:)

I was just wondering about the mobo!

Do they use a normal ATX or Flex ATX or some other weird one?

I have an old one I want to stick in a black ATX desktop case for a master bedroom HTPC!

Also:

It has a 533 Celeron now, can it be upgraded to a 900MHz or 1GHz CPU or is the emachine mobo just un-upgradable?

Not sure what standard size the motherboard is but it's not ATX. My girlfriend had one with a 600MHz Celeron and the board wouldn't align itself in an ATX case for mounting.

As far as being upgradeable...don't know. The 533 is a 66MHz and the 900-1GHz are 100MHz chips. I would assume they work only if the board accepts up to 100MHz bus speeds. May need to contact support on that. Even though I consider them junk for anything other than web browsing/email, the board should accept 100MHz bus as about any modern board does and it is somewhat modern technology. However, being that all emachines (that I've seen, that is) have only had Celerons in them, it may be all they take...period.

Don't take my word on it though.

Thanks, I figured my emachine would have some sort of abnormal size motherboard!

I will have to crack it open and check it out myself I guess:(

Nope, they are not standard. A friend gave me the case from one.

Quit making fun of my emachine, your gonna hurt my feelings:(

I have had it for over a year and have had no problems. I installed 256MB ram, a Radeon 32MB video card, a 40GB hard drive and a Game Theater XP. I also just installed Windows XP Pro on it and everything runs fine!

With those items added it works fine as an MP3/DVD Player/MAME machine on my TV:)

Now if I could just get it out of the lame emachine case. I already sanded off the stupid E on the front, but anyone who knows anything about computers can tell it is an emachine just by the ugly case!

Yeah, I would much rather have one of those super attractive HP cases, or how about a Compaq?

The e-machines case is no worse than those...probably even better because it doesn't have some clear plastic on the front or some strange decorative appendage sticking out of it...

Lol, Compaq's nickname of comcrap is well deserved, believe me. My dad owned one for three years, a P200MMX. He finally got a Dell, at which point he threw the thing down the stairs at me and told me it was my problem. I ran it for a few months. Then my dad brought home a machine from work that they were gonna trash... a P166, and we combined parts from the two and built the machine in my sig that's my mom's. It's actually a decent rig, that P200 was much slower in that comcrap POS. Anyone who has seen my older posts knows my old avatar with a motherboard bashed by a hammer... that's the remnants of the Compaq. I'll post a pic at the end of this post.

Anyway, I've never dealt with a HP outside of the one my grandparents use, and I'd say it is an OK computer at best. It's fairly reliable, but nothing extraordinary. Typical HP. Better than Compaq. Never had an emachines though but from what I've heard it's the same noise all over again. The only branded computer I'll buy is Dell, this is a good comp for anyone who's not into tweaking, that is.

I heard from someone that emachines used a standard microATX mobo, but since most computer companies these days use proprietary mobos, I don't really believe that. Especially since you said it didn't work in an ATX case.

Here's that comcrap mobo I talked about:
