yes, quake 2...(remember that game?)

have played it online for a long time now, usually with a friend on a second computer linked thru a hub to a cable modem. the problem of have is that lately I have not been able to use both computers to play quake 2 at the same time. when entering the game, both computers start out with a ping around 80-120. the ping quickly rises to 200, 400, then 999. when only one is on there is no problem, or when one is on q2 and another is on RTCW there is no problem...only when both are on q2 at the same time does it lag out like this

any ideas anyone?

You have all the patches for it (Q2) ? They solved a lot of stability issues, with those.

a friend of mine had a problem like this not too long ago
when one computer was in the server he'd have a 20 ping but once the second computer (linked through a hub) joins in, they'd both have 500pings. He didn't find an exact solution but he installed win2k on the server PC and it fixed the problem.

anyone else have any ideas? i'd hate to pop down $100 on a new OS and not have it do the trick...tried reinstalling the game on both machines, installing all the patches, tried launching into games without gamespy, tried a different hub and modem, different cables, all with no success

my download speed is great...not sure what my upload speed is and if that would affect having both comp's on the same server at one time...if i do upgrade my OS, suggestions on win2k, ME, or XP?? I use the computer primarily for gaming/surfing..thanks
