Was wondering, simple question:
Can you do a dual graphics card setup with an ATi and an nVidia card?

Yes you can. they won't work together though. What context will this be in?

Wow, very fast reply, my God!

What context? Do you mean what are the two card models?

Well what I mean is, is it so that you can have 4 monitors or something? Or do you want to game with both cards?

Basically, why do you want to use 2 different GPUs together.

I have 1 monitor that has a max resolution of 1680x1050 and an abit AW9D motherboard (which claims to only support ATi Crossfire for dual graphics).
My Uncle has an old PC with an older model ATi Radeon card (but still decent). I just figured maybe I can get better performance with two cards
(even if one's a lower end). Though I wasn't sure about the two different brands.

yeah in that case you can only use ATI in crossfire. There might be a hack out there somewhere but I don't know about it

I can't afford to buy a new set of ATi cards, or another nVidia card. Right now I have an 8800GTS, but even for some of the newest games, it is still inferior.

the GTS is decent, it should hold you for now. I'd start saving and spend some later.

You can do SLI on a Crossfire motherboard, needs a hack patch though. Mix n matching cards for gaming performance is only doable with 2 AMD cards.

I think older drives allowed you to use sli on intel chipsets but they took this out awhile ago.

correct you can not do SLI on an xfire chipset or vice versa, this was only in the early days.

what res are you playing at and what games a 8800GTS 512 should be able to handle most games just fine.......

xfire is possible on SLI chipsets, actually.

Diamond Multimedia made a big return to the graphics card market with a new lineup of Radeon cards a while back, and it was the first to announce the launch of Radeon HD 2900 XT 1GB just recently. In a document supplied to us we can now inform you about the next step for Diamond; xDNA. xDNA is a platform that enables you to run a CrossFire setup on any chipset, and that includes NVIDIA chipsets. You can pick pretty much any motherboard with any socket, fit it with two Diamond Radeon cards and run CrossFire on it using Diamond's xDNA technology.

Diamond used to be great, and cant seem to find any more recent news or updates on their hybrid stuff... wonder if it was all talk...

It's all over their box. I'd definatly try it if I had an SLI board.
