Which way would give better performance? Heat Spreader Question)

Which do you all think is a better way of installing memory heat spreaders? With the thermal tape or just clipped on?

Thermal tape should work better, but oddly enough installing heat spreaders actually dropped my mem overclockability by 2Mhz.

AS2 and clips, or AS epoxy, thermal tape is useless.
