View Full Version : 800MHZ vs 1066 MHZ, Quick Question
Hi All,
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
Currently, I am running 4GBs of GSKILL 800 MHZ ram in VISTA X64.
I was just curious if it is worth the 150$ upgrade to go to 4GBs of 1066MHZ, the full speed supported by my motherboard?
I am mostly a gamer, and am just curious how much of a boost this would provide. Thanks all!.

The answer is no. There is no huge improvement from 800 to 1066. It wouldn't be worth it. In fact, they are almost identical. Your 4gb should last a while. Hell my 2gb are doing a sweet job playing my games at high. Also if you upgraded to 4gb 1066 you still might be stuck at 800mhz as most mobos have trouble running all 4 slots at 1066mhz.
Thanks for the quick response, it is appreciated!

just adding that i concur with everything said above. the gains, if any, are going to be minimal to say the least. and as mentioned, the added stress may cause more headaches even further reducing the value of the upgrade. put that money into a future GPU upgrade fund...much better served for your uses.

I concur with what everyone said. If you see any gains they will be in benchmarks only.
Not to mention that good 4GB kits (2GB per stick of Memory) can OC pretty well and very near to 1066Mhz, my own pair runs at 998Mhz from 800Mhz, quite a decent OC in my book for a 4GB kit, and yes, it's very stable (17 hours HCI Memtest with increased room temperature).

Grate, it depends what CPU you are running. Can you post up your mobo/CPU information?
