with the help of wolfsid, i was able to get my 3dscore to 7253...this came at a cost, however. My current clock spd is 1472mhz w/ 140@10.5. problem with this is my load temp is 49C, so i am gonna have to break down, and put some asII on the ol' athlon. now i do have some concerns with this stuff...
I really don't wanna take my mobo out to put on the damn stuff, but i may have to, as i need to make sure my huge SK6 is seated well.
wolfsid mentioned lapping, which i really don't wanna do, but will if i don't see sig. heat drops w/asII (currently using no-name thermal grease)
As far as getting the hsf off the mobo, was wondering if the clip on the SK6 has any tendancies to break...anything when removed.
As i mentioned before, i don't wanna take the mobo (or ps..got nice wiring scheme) out of the case, just wondering what my fellow SK6 owners have done in the past...
as far as being an overclocker...****...i've caught the bug...THANX guys ;) lol
As far as clips go the one used on the SK6 isn't that hard to work with, if your careful you shouldn't have any problems. I have removed mine several times with no probs. If you going to go to the trouble of taking it off to put on ASII then you might as well lap it with some ultrafine 1000 grit paper on a piece of glass while your at it so you know it's good and flat and that you will get the best cooling possible first time out. It's not at all hard and well worth the effort as the SK6's aren't all that smooth out of the box. There's no sense in having to pull it off again to lap it if you aren't happy with it. Keep in mind that you will need to run it for a day under load before you will see your best temps with ASII. Good luck and have fun.

umm 49C is pretty decent for an amd at that speed, and ASII will only give you like a 2 degree temp difference....

I agree with the statement that if your going to remove the SK-6, you might as well lap it. Here is a place where you can get 3 different sets of sandpaper for lapping:

Plus, if the SK-6 is not smooth to the touch when purchased, the use of AC II and lapping could drop the temp a lot! Make sure that you have good air flow as well.
Hope this helps. :)
I wouldn't be so lazy when it comes to cooling your computer. Your results can be cut down ALOT.
Heres my suggestion lap it.
Use ASII or Arctic Alumina I'm not sure what works better.
Before you apply the thermal compound onto the heatsink to rub and after you lap clean the heatsink off with alcohol and take note not to touch the heatsink after you cleaned it since one skin cell that effect the outcome.
Clean the core off apply the thermal compound.
Lapping will kill lots maybe 3-5 degrees.
Thermal compound good as ASII or Alumina will hit down minimum 2-4 degrees.
Doing this will make sure the reseating of the heatsink right and all procedures are right.
Good Luck

I've bought one of the later SK-6's and it definitely needed to be lapped. Lapping is fun.. I say get some good advice from the people around these forums and go to it! You'll see a difference for sure. Sandpaper you can find anywhere: hardware store, Walmart, etc.
The clip is decent and I removed it several times easilly without bending it or hurting the socket lugs or chipping the core. Just go slow, get the fan off before you try to remove it with a flathead screwdriver.
ASII is good. Make sure to clean off all the other stuff first. The ASII website has pretty helpful instructions. You don't have to use much ASII on the core (real thin layer).
Also check out the thread(s) on using 80mm fans on a SK-6.
