I recently transferred my printer from my old puter to my new oc'd one. I downloaded the most recnt driver ans setup program from HP. After installing the software, a communication test is automatically performed between the puter and the printer. It says that everything is OKAY. However, when I try to print something, I get a communication error. I guess everything is not OKAY after all.

I know it is not the printer because I was using it up to the point when I transferred it.

I have uninstalled & re-installed the driver / software twice, and it did not make a difference - passed the comm. test and failed to print.

Any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have an HP-Deskjet as well...

in system setup- set parallel port to ECP/EPP.
also-which OS are you using?

Take you CPU down to it's normal speed and see if you get the communication error...

More than likely you FSB is high enough to tank out the LPT port.

Hmm try KingSlayer's method since FunnyPerson as well when setting his FSB too high took out his printer port.

Recheck the link between the printer to the CPU.

First, I want to thank everyone for their suggestions.

Okay...I figured it out. Due to the location of the printer, I had connected an older 25 pin parallel cable with a male / male adapter to the cable that came with the printer. Apparently, the older cable did not comply with the IEEE-1284 standard. I disconnected the two cables and connected the printer cable directly to the LPT port and everything is okay - even at 148 FSB.

Now, I just have to purchase a 12' IEEE-1284 cable and put everything where it belongs.
