View Full Version : Is the 8800gt worth $100 more than 8600gt?
Newegg has the 8600gt for $40 after rebate and a 8800gt for $140 after rebate. I am trying to put a low cost system together and the 8600 gt seems like a good deal but I just don't know if they are any good. I don't do much gaming but I would like to have the option. Should I put the difference in the two cards towards a better cpu? I was thinking of the E2160 and the gigabyte ga-p35-ds3l and overclock it or get the E7200 for a cpu with the same mb.

For looking at spreadsheets and sending emails, No.
Playing games, Yes.
What all do you intend to use the computer for?

Yes, pending what you want to play and what resolutions.

Yes. Trust us, you'll be happy you went with the 8800gt in the long run.

or wait just a little longer for the 4xxx series
I kinda thought that was going to be the answer. So I would be better going with the 8800gt and e2160 to stay with my budget and maybe upgrade the cpu at a later date. As far as games I use to play America's Army and Tiger Woods 2008 but haven't played much lately.
Id recommend the 8800GT then.
By the way, for a dollar more, you can get a E2180 with a x10 multiplier.

Just curious, whats your system's specs?
IMHO, yes. I personally came from an 8600GT, after upgrading to the 8800GT I was blown away, every game i play, with the exception of Crysis, I can set everything at High/very high, 2 or 4x AA at 1680x1050 and still get very playable FPS.

For games, the 8800GT owns the 8600GT. It's in a whole different class. You could probably snag an 8800GT for around $120. Just look around for a good sale.

I hate myself for getting 2x8600 in my new rig looking everyday for the golden deal on a better card
