View Full Version : I'm about to get run over!

I just got back into Folding after being out of it for some years. I fold under the name BigBlockk. I used to be a member of this forum under that name but I couldn't remember my password so I made a new account under the name BigBlock.
Even though I just got my 5'th machine up and running (mostly old P3's and Thunderbirds) I'm not going to be able to hold off some heavy hitters coming up behind me. Marineman, Raptord and Badapple18 are fixin on running right over top of me. One of these bad boys has over 19,000 points with only 11 work units.
Unreal!

What are your origins with Team 32? How far do you go back? A pioneer perhaps? :)

Boy, looking for the answer to this is like stepping back in time. My introduction can be found here. It is post #153. The date was 11-19-01.

If memory serves, the highest ranking I had was 34'th on Team 32.
I gave up folding because I was trying to run a five machine farm on dialup and Stanford had some problems with several of their servers. I couldn't allow my machines to tie up the phone line for hours at a time trying to get work.
Back in those days a big WU was 3 points.

Welcome back man, glad to see I made somebody's threat list. Good 'ole 4Ghz SMP sure cranks out the points for a single machine. Hopefully you get your farm up and running and we can have a nice battle.

Well, I don't think there will be much of a fight. There is no way I'm going to be able to catch you with a bunch of old P III's and Thunderbird's.

Wow!!! A true T32 pioneer!!!
What's also cool is the fact that there are folks in that thread that are still here today... most notably belorsch and NedClocker!!! You guys were here at the beginning and still running strong!!! for you two. :)

Well, like I said the only reason I quit was because of the phone line issue. I guess I folded for nearly a year and a half. I was able to get to just over 16,000 points.
I do have a question if y'all don't mind. I just got some new equipment and was wondering if y'all could tell me if this is any good for folding these proteins we get now-a-days.

I sure hope this stuff will be better than my old Tualatin's and Thunderbird's 'cause , you see, I kinda went overboard and got 4 of each. I hope it's good stuff.
What y'all think?

Sorry BigBlock must have missed this one.
I never ran the dual core "D" 65nm chips but i can tell you the single core 65's oc'ed like mad. No experience with asus either, sorry. No question they will be better than a Tualatin, but if you see a deal on Intel Quads that's what your after. Max ppd per $$ right now, Q6600 is king.

WB, BigBlock. You should PM an administrator and ask them to reset the password on your old account.

Well, the 3.4's didn't work out. I ended up buying 7 of those chips and all turned out to be bad. It was like starting up a motherboard without the processor in it. Anyway, I was able to get a Pentium D 925 3Ghz and now have it running at 3.3Ghz. Hoping for more after a bios flash. This has raised my output by about 800 to 900 points per day.
On a sad note. My four machine farm bit the dust. This was a 3.06 Celeron, a 1000 P3 and a couple Thunderbirds (a 1400 and a 1000). The 3.06 acted as a server for the rest of them so that I wouldn't need hard drives for each one. Well the built in lan on the 3.06 smoked and since the other boards are so old that they won't boot from a flash drive the whole mess came crashing down.
Oh well.

:welcome: back Bigblock. Sorry to hear about the farm, that sucks. Hope you get it fixed soon.
:welcome:back BB.
No chance a mod can't get your old account back for you if you asked?

Thank you, it's good to be back. My wife actually found the old paper that I had all of my passwords scribbled on.
I don't know, I think I'll just keep it BigBlock. The only reason I used the extra K was because way back in the mid '90's someone already had the name "BigBlock" on the old Excite automotive message boards. They're not even there anymore.
Maybe if I leave it at "BigBlock" the old timers won't remember me from that little dustup I got into back in the day.
It's all good.

No, we remember. But there is no more political discussion on this site, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Well, I have a total of 6 of these P5LD2-VM motherboards. I also have 3 Pentium D 925's on the way so we'll see if I can ramp up my output.
Speaking of Marineman, I just passed him this evening. I wonder what happened?
