I'm thinking about going to back to 8.4. I lost points in 3dmark, and these were suppose to FIX the problems in DiRT, and now the game won't even play :screwy:

Geez, that makes me hesitant before I actually put any effort into this that 2 people are already reporting a slackening in actual horsepower and reliability. I think I am going to write AMD a strongly worded letter, lol.

What windows are you on? some people are reporting an increase in 3dmark, but it may just be the 64bit vista version im using..

Vista Ultimate 64.

Maybe you'll have better luck. I got excited when it said that it fixed the DiRT issues. Then i start up the game and it freezes "not responding"

I'll probably go back to 8.4 tomorrow, its too late for me to fool with it tonight :p

I guess I'll try these out. I'm on the betas right now for Vantage.

My CoD4 on Vista Ult 64bit seems more stable... constant 250fps.

1680 by 1050 Everything on except AA... textures on Extra.

You're kidding right? 3dMark varies by 500+ at each runtime.

Who cares if you lose 150 3DMarks as long as games run smoother. If you want to bench with yer card, then just install the 8.4s everytime you want to bench, and run the 8.5s for daily usage.

I really don't care actually :D. The driver seems much more stable and gives me a smoother frame rate. I'll play some COD4 tonight maybe to see if it works any better and stops the freezing. THAT is definatly what I care about.

No vantage, no. I could, but I find 3d06 is plenty to stress my current video setup. Maybe I'll get it tonight.

Ill get some vantage tests for you running Vantage 1.01, between the 8.4 Vantage Hotfix Drivers, and 8.5.

I'll also do some 3d06.

Though these are just benches, not games and don't mean much.

Going to listen to a state of trance 353 first though. :)

3.2 ghz dual core, 4GB DDR2 800 4-4-4-12, 3870 @ 864/1197, Vista SP1

8.4 Vantage beta hotfix drivers -- 8.5 Official Drivers

3dmark06 - 11247 / 11299 ~wash, though +52

3dmark Vantage- P4531/P4549 / P4551/P4547 ~complete wash

Looks like no improvements or performance hits as mentioned. The drivers probably just fix some bugs that were already in the hotfix release.

thanks for the benchies Vixro :)

Saw this -

Loads of new TV-out features

AMD has released the latest ATI Catalyst 8.5 drivers and although there are some performance fixes, the most interesting part of these new drivers are all the new TV-out features which should appeal to the HTPC crowd.

It seems thatAMD has fixed just about everything possibly wrong with the TV connectivity of its cards and new features includes 1080p24 support, that is 24fps video support on high-end HDTV's, HDMI audio for non-standard resolutions, 480i and 480p via component video, custom HDMI 1080p settings and improved SECAM support.

Add to this support for Windows XP SP3, a better uninstaller, Adaptive AA on OpenGL and performance improvements for five games and it looks like a pretty solid driver. However, there doesn't seem to be any mention of any 3DMark Vantage fixes, which is a bit odd.

You can find the release notes here (https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/gamesite/Catalyst_85_release_notes.html) and you can download the drivers here (http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx)

Lots of HTPC improvements :)

My Vista Ult 64 rig was working fine until I installed these drivers. Now I am BSODing.

Aren't you the one still having trouble getting your crossfire working? I wouldn't call that fine.

Well it wasn't BSODing until this patch came out, so i consider that more fine than the current situation, at least I could get into windows beforehand.

I havent seen improvements in games, but in vatage I went from P6665 to P7054. Quite a nice improvement :)

I got a little error while installing it but I havent noticed any problems because of that yet.
