VideoMach (Download.com) or you can pick up Ulead GIF Animator (Also Download.com).
I highly recommend VideoMach though.

There is nothing illegal about wanting to split an AVI file into pieces.

Right there is nothing illegal about looking for avi chopping programs... I can make personaly avi's here... anyone with a home webcam or digital cam can do that... editting my own is far from illegal...
however - asking for some kind of hack to break a registering code would be...
well, I'm guessing that he's talking about ripping a DVD and converting it. Then Burning it onto two seperate CD roms.
Maybe so he can sell them?
That would be wrong.
But then again I don't know what he's doing, I'm just guessing.
Rob
OK that would be legally wrong... However, Ive looked into that some myself before and by my very basic understanding, its far from that easy...

I guess I hit the nail on the head with that one. I don't think ya need to back up dvd's cuz if you take care of them there suppose to last a LONG LONG LONG time.
All I'm saying her is that I don't think that this post should have come up here.
I'm starting to understand why there jumping on the posts and focusing on keeping it clean.

I think some of you are getting a little carried away. He never mentioned anything about copying movies or pirating them at all! You cannot assume someone is doing this. If it is not mentioned then there is nothing wrong with the post. Even the mod said it was fine.
I've created, cut, and joined avi's, mpeg's, Divx movies from home video's. Is this illegal. NO! You have no way of knowing that's this is not what he's doing!
I can understand that you guys want to keep this place clean and up and running. I do as well. But you need to really think about what your doing before you start accussing people of things when you don't know for certain.
I remember a person here had a problem with a game locking up. Right away everyone starts jumping on him how he's wrong cause he's got a pirated version of the game cause that what happens. Well he never said he did'nt have the original. Turns out it was the original game and the latest patch fixed it. He did'nt have a pirated version. Those who replied felt pretty STUPID I'm sure. That in a way is what's going on here. This needs to come to an end too!

UMMM WHAT EVER!!!
First of all, no one has said anything about anything illegal in the origonal post.
About 6 months ago I exchanged messages with some of the mods about digital video. At that point they made 2 points clear.
#1
They did not want discusions about DIVX encoding on this web site, as it was in the gray area.
#2
This is an overclockers website and not a digital video website. If I wanted to discus digital video then I should go to a site set up for that (not because of the grey area, but because digital video is such a large and complicated topic, and not really related to overclocking.)
So to answer the question about how to chop and join AVI files, go to this site
http://www.digital-digest.com
it is the best site for digital video that I have found.
And for all of you neysayers,
Don't reply to a post saying "I can't believe the mods haven't busted you yet"
This is very juvinile and uncalled for. If you think there is something seriously wrong with a post then you should report it to a moderator.
If you are going to reply to a post, either answer it or give constructive critisim. If you don't have anything nice to say.......
