Ya just wondering if u guys left them on 24/7 cuz i find it a hassle to open the case everytime to flip the switch or cut a hole in the case to have it out.

I leave mine running all the time, and I have an external switch for mine.

I cut a hole in my second floppy face plate and put a switch in it.

I used to have cold cathodes when I had a windowed case. 4 cold cathodes. 2 cathodes on each switch. Switch was mounted on the second floppy cover.

I only turned it on when I wanted to show it off to friends/family and clients. I liked it when they "ooooo'ed and ahhhhh'ed" lol. Most of the time they stayed off.

Same, I have mine on just for showing off, off most of the time. I figure it's off 99% of the time.

2 UV CCFL's, maybe more on the way. Externaly powered and on whenever the PC is, which is ALOT!

Mine are off with an external switch. I only turn them on for showing off. They get hot, and could potentially raise the overall temperature of my PC.

I leave mine on for my own viewing pleasure :p

aside from temps, is there a reason you would want them off?

one good reason: CCFL can be very bright. It can be somewhat distracting especially if you're a habitual night time game player. Plus those 9particularly UV lights) can attract bugs and if you have the lights on 24/7 you should expect to clean your case a few times of all the dead bugs that piled up inside. It doesn't matter how good the filters are, bug will find a hole somewhere big enough to be let inside.

Trust me trying to extract a remain of a ladybug why didn't survive a 120mm fan and had its gut splattered all over the heat sink is defiantly no fun.

Geez, I just don't have that many bugs in my house! :) If my box is on my UV tubes are on as well.

When I had them I used to run them 24/7, but I soon grew tired of cleaning bugs out of my case. This was during the summertime and I had my window open all the time, so naturally critters found a way in.

They looked very cool, and had the cheapo inverters not died on me I'd probably still have them.

When i was 13 and thought my computer was cool I had them on all the time.

Then i realized its a computer and no one cares, and neither do I.

My name is Jeff, and I own a Dell.

Thats pretty much what i'm worried about, i'm scared they'll explode if i leave them all 24/7, but i mean how likely is that?

I mean those things don't seem to b made to last long. may b a couple months tops.

At 13 (last year) when I built my first comp, I did not have led fans nor any lights. Partly becuase I'm rather practical. Anyway, "My name is Jeff, and I own a Dell"... How's that related?

How is not running case lights an indication of practicality?

For me, my computer is in my room and is quite far away from my screen. As such, few notice it and I hardly see my desktop. Besides, if I want to look at a particular area, I'll use some big table lamp.

I have 2 blue ccfls in my computer. I've used them about half the time. Now I leave them on 24/7 but I had them completely off for about a year. Considering my computer is several years old and it's on most of the day, I'd say my lights have lasted at least 2 years of being switched on permanently. They are still working perfectly and I have never gotten a bug inside my case. Guess I'm just lucky.

Lights are boring... get a 5.25" floppy drive and a spare floppy and make music :) I wrote my own version of "happy birthday" with a Commodore 64 and a 1541 drive once :)

I have gotten away completely from CCFLs. They are a pain to wire up and just take up too much room. I have been using LED clusters for a couple of years now and prefer them hands down. They draw very little power, are still very bright, don't have anywhere near the wiring clutter of CCFLs, can be easily positioned where you want them to shine, and put out very little heat. I have mine hard wired on and like them.

Very possibly, and aside from non-comprehension of jokes, I must compliment your grasp on grammar/spelling and all that jazz.

As for me, I stick to pure UV inside the case, for two reasons. I don't window my cases, so it's not for showing off, but when I pop the side and it's on, I've often made little notes in UV reactive paint across my case, such as Bios settings, notes to myself for which wire is which, connections, and the like. There's a practicality, and the strange purplish glow is almost soothing at times, rather than a pitch black case or something that radiates green and blue and all sorts of other LSD colors.

I usually leave mine off, but when I show it off to friends or family I turn them on. Heck, even when showing someone a cool program on my computer I turn it on lol. Also, I turn them on when listening to music because I like to see the light pulsing to the beat.

Is it a sin not to joke? Correct me if I'm wrong then. English is not my native language. Chinese, or more specifically mandrine, is.

You don't window, then how does it soothe you? And do you have a fountain which radiates purple? Why can't you use white light? Makes everything the colour it should and not turn everything blue.
