i have a question to whoever can answer this..... i have a asus p4b-lx motherboard with socket 478 p4 1.5ghz and my question is how long will my chip last if i leave it at default or oc to 1.7? difference betwen them i would like to kno becu idunt have money to buy everytime thanx in advance
Basically lenght wise no difference.
Your chip is suppose to last about 15 years.
And overclocking alot may reduce it to maybe 5-10 years.
But think about it in 5 years how much do you think your chip is going to be worth?
Nearly nothing its going to be the Commodore 64 today.
Don't let those thing scare you.
Like "you kill the core when you overclock."

now i have another problem its at 114 fsb now 1700mhz and my sound is gettin messed up and i kant go higher then 114 fsb for some reason is there any other way i can it tells me i can go up to 133
Well not all overclocking system are the same and just because they can get to a certain speed doesn't mean you can.
Just monitor temperatures.
Is it onboard sound or what kind of card, how is it getting messed up?
Try removing the card and try for 120fsb because thats the average overclock.
Your sound card may not be such of a good card and not liking the higher fsbs.

See if you can go out and buy something cheap like Sound Blaster Ensoniq since they will overclock better than onboard sound.
133 being the FSB.
44 being your PCI bus since your board has 1/3 dividers I'm guessing.

133 is the FSB, 44 is your PCI bus, looks like your mobo didn't come with a 1/4 divider. 44PCI bus is pretty out of whack. Onboard Sound does NOT respond to OCing very well. Better off with a Soundblaster or a TB of some sort. I did once have seccess running things at 48Mhz PCI bus but once I realized I was running everything that out of spec, I changed it to the next divider.

ok isee ill try and get a new sound card and one mor question how do i change vcore? because i kant bootup passt 117 fsb for soem reason
Unless your motherboard doesn't have the option it should be in the section where you change the FSB, multiplier and stuff.
Also known as a "User Define" setting.
