View Full Version : HELP! Maxtor HD and Windows XP
I'm attempting to install windows xp Professional edition onto my main computer and it freezes at the same point of setup everytime...which is when it read "setup is starting windows". I checked the knowledge base at www.windowsxp.com and they suggest that the setup utility needs the drivers for my particular HD to be specified...here's my problem I went to Maxtor's site www.maxtor.com and they don't have drivers for their Harddrives. Anyone know a way around this problem short of me buying a new hard drive?
Hmm alot of people have this problem.
They resolved it when recreating bootdisks.
Updating to their lastest bios.
Are you trying an upgrade or a clean install?
Although I've seen alot of this problem being resolved by updating the bios.
Your not running a raid setup by any chance are you?
Because you have to identify them at the start...

nope no raid yet.
It's a clean install now since I got frustrated beyond belief with it last night and formatted.
Try posting this under Operating System.
Are you booting from the CD-Rom or the 5-6 bootdisk I forgot how many.

I'm booting from the CD-ROM. It worked fine on my secondary computer. I'm pretty sure that my bios is up to date. It's the Mobo that you see in my signature. Ya think a bootdisk could do the trick? If so where could I get one at?

Another coomon cause for your problem is the Video Card. This problem is common on systems with GForce MX 100/200/400 chips.. if you happen to have this card, try replacing it with a different VGA card and put it back after the full install...
It did well on you other system maybe because it doesnt have the GF2MX card
I trade my GF2MX400 out for an old 2mb vga card I had laying around...worked perfectly thanks so much for the help

Are you saying this is a copied CD or just OEM?
Whoa I never knew about the video card.
I have a GeForce 2 MX/200 works fine for me.

Who made yours? Mine was a Visiontek Geforce 2 MX 400
could be the manufacturer and not the chipset itself...I woulda never thought to remove it otherwise...haven't had any problems since.
