I have an IBM Thinkpad T30 (p4-m 2000Mhz Northwood) with an ATI MOBILITY RADEON 7500 GPU

Since the ATI chip in this T30 does not have a heat sink on it. I have been wondering if I could increase stability and even give the laptop a longer life span if I were to install a heatsink on the GPU.
There is room for a small one (not so sure if their is room for a small heat pipe I removed from a dead laptop:confused:).
Does any know if installing a heat sink on my GPU would actually help things? Is there enough air flow inside the cramped case to allow a heatsink to dissipate the heat effectively.?
If any one has any thoughts on this I would love to hear them...

They can take the heat, unless it's over 90C I wouldn't worry about it.

You could use a laptop cooling pad such as this:

I actually made my own cooling "lap desk"

It is not perfect but it does make a difference - nor is as pretty as the Zalman cooler. But it is great for sitting back in my recliner and typing long papers for school.

Here are some pictures of it. (please don't look at the mess...Ive been working on a project and I tend to get cluttered)
I found a small little 2 amp power supply that has both 5v and 12v, 5v for silent slow fan speeds and the 12v for high fan speeds.

Haha. Nice job you did there. If I had not seen this, I'll use the intake holes and blast some air into it. To direct the air, I'll use a funnel of some sort.

You may want to check out walmart. I picked up a cooling pad a while back for like $20 (made by Belkin I beleive), and it works great on my HP laptop. Way better than having that little oven sitting on your lap, and hopefully it'll help increase the life of the laptop.

In all reality my homemade lapdesk is not that hot sitting on my lap. Its softness makes up for any extra heat it traps on my legs. I will sit in my recliner with it on my lap for hours with out getting uncomfortable. Other laptop cooling pads I have tried are hard and don't seem to be all that friendly for sitting on a lap for hours at a time.

Check out the simple Lapcooler pad which I invented and sell on ebay. No fans, just a mat of woven nylon with aa polyester mat. No fans, no power uses, simple and inexpensive. You can check out at www.lapcooler.com.

I think he was referring to a laptop by itself....

how do yo know the GPU has no heatsink on it, did you pop open the case? i guess if it is integrated type it would just be the chip, in that case cooling it more i dont think would give you any life span extention at all.
