I'm building a budget gaming PC, and I'm deciding between these two PSUs. I'll be running a C2D E7200, MSI NX8800GT, 2x2GB G.Skill RAM, and one SATA HDD, so I'm pretty sure both will give me enough power.

Everyone says good things about the Corsair, but from what I've heard the OCZ is equally reliable and high-quality. The OCZ is about $35 cheaper, but a lot of people swear by Corsair PSUs. Right now I'm leaning toward the OCZ because of it's price, but is there any reason that I should choose the Corsair steer clear of the OCZ?

OCZ StealthXStream 500W is based on Fortron Epsilon platform. IIRC now is a revisited PCB design so it should be fine.
If money are a concern you can go for OCZ without problems, but I prefer CWT based Corsair from those two.

The Corsair VX550 is one the most praised PSUs ever, I haven't read any review that didn't give it an almost perfect score.

The OCZ is great too, but for 35$ I would go with the Corsair...

Actually, the Corsair VX450 ($59 @ buy.com) will run your rig quite adequately and it puts out more power on the 12v rail where you need it than the OCZ (~33 amps vs ~27 amps).

The Corsair VX450 is rated at 396w on the 12v rail while the OCZ is rated at about 330w on its two 12v rails combined. While the difference is significant, the OCZ should run what you want adequately and the price is quite good after rebates.

So the OCZ, even though it's rated for 330W, is enough to power my system? In that case, I'll probably go for it just because of it's lower price. One more factor though. Is either the Corsair or the OCZ noticably loud? If the Corsair is quieter, is it so much as to justify spending an extra $25 (if I instead go with the 450W)?

Quantum,

The Corsairs have been reported to be dead silent, I know my HX520 is and others have reported the same throughout all the Corsair models unless there is something wrong. I have no hands on experience with that OCZ model. Most of us understand building a rig on a tight budget and the OCZ should run your system just fine. If you can find the extra $25 to spend, the VX450 is a much better choice with more output 12v rail. Both have free shipping at the moment so that's not a factor either.

Alright, I think I'll go with the OCZ. I could always use that saved money on some other aspect of my build (probably a better case).
