View Full Version : Ninja Gaiden...
Did anyone else see the new Ninja Gaiden commercial? I just saw it last night while watching the basketball game.
I never can judge much about a game from a commercial, but the commercial did look pretty nice. Kinda made me want to play the game. :) It must be getting close to an actual release if they're putting the commercials out. They probably wouldn't be doing that if it were headed for some sort of delay.

It comes out on Tuesday, and it does indeed look awesome.

Looks a hell of a lot like the first one. I honestly don't expect it to be better than Devil May Cry 4. Then again... I don't really expect ANY similar action-type game to be better than Devil May Cry 4.
DMC4 had everything AND style... AND a killer soundtrack.

DMC4 was fun, but the game was exceptionally shallow and the repitition got old over time. Oh, and the combat music was almost exactly the same throughout the entire game.
Ninja Gaiden probably will not sell as well as DMC4 [2.3M total] but the game remains the gold standard for action games for many. DMC lacked replayability to me, even with all of the extra "achievements thrown in" [I played the PS3 version].

I don't think I'll be getting it, I'm content with DMC4 and didn't really like Sigma.

On the other hand... Ninja Gaiden is "cheap" and it played itself-out over the course of Ninja Gaiden, Ninja Gaiden Black, Ninja Gaiden SIGMA... which were really all the same damned game.
Saying it was "hard" is just being polite. Sometimes you would die because somebody did something off-camera that killed you that you never even saw.
And, at the very least, the player was nicely rewarded for becoming proficient in DMC4. It was almost similar to the way that players are rewarded in COD4... even going so far as to be able to check your progress against your friend's.
I don't know. You can pick up Ninja Gaiden and let me know for sure... but I just can't see it winning out as far as an action game goes.

Ninja Gaiden cheap? That's interesting - I personally though that Ninja Gaiden required a lot more effort to beat than DMC. Moreover, each version was created out of demand. NGB was basically to incorporate the changes from the Hurricane Pack, and Sigma was done to give Playstation owners an opportunity to enjoy the game. Moreover, each iteration brought something different, but I don't think anyone disputes the fact that they were the same titles. You're perhaps the only person I know that has complained about the number of Ninja Gaiden versions. Hell, Street Fighter 2 had at least 5 versions and we loved every one :)

The game wasn't designed to be easy, particularly Ninja Gaiden Black. Sigma was actually quite easy. In any event, the learning curve was done by design and some gamers actually found this quite attractive.

For starters, Ninja Gaiden used yellow essence [collected from fallen enemies] to level up Ryu. This essence was used to buy new abilities and armor as well as enhance weapons to unlock more moves and combos. Secondly, comparing DMC4 [a game released in 2008] to the original Ninja Gaiden [a game that was originally released in 2004] isn't exactly a fair comparison. The new NG does include a Ninja Cinema mode in which you can share images and videos of your efforts with others online.

Sales-wise Ninja Gaiden 2 won't beat DMC4 for a number of reasons [greater difficulty, not multiplatform, etc] For me, I just want a solid and engaging action game and NG2 will definitely fit the bill.

You misunderstand me: I didn't say Ninja Gaiden was hard... It's really no harder than any other God of War, Devil May Cry 4, Onimusha-style action game... I said it was "cheap."
And I would add to that it's not even "intentionally cheap" (which you could argue is "hard") Things like the camera not being in the right place make it cheap. Or projectiles that you don't even see, and could've blocked, make it cheap. I would also add that it's confusing:
I saw a demo for Ninja Gaiden II and it was very difficult just to try and figure out what the hell was going on. In the first Ninja Gaiden I often found myself completely lost. There was one part, in particular, where there was a red door, a blue door, a green door... every color of the rainbow. Some doors were open, some doors were locked... the map wasn't particularly helpful and the town was kind of on the big side... enemies were respawning at places for no particular reason... It turns out I wasn't supposed to go through a door at all! I was supposed to climb a roof! Then jump from something... then die I guess... But there wasn't anything "hard" about it. It was just... frustrating.
