I am building a system with very high specs and its going to be OCd so i want something with 1000+. does this look like a good psu? do you know of anything around 250$ or less that will out perform?

Thanks for all the help you guys have provided. wouldnt be this easy to build a new rig without you.

I think that is a wintech built unit....and i wouldnt trust it to run a high end rig...honestly though, what are you building that requires that much power?

SILVERSTONE OP1000-E 1000W ATX 12V 2.2 & EPS 12V Power Supply - Retail (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817256043)

CORSAIR CMPSU-1000HX 1000W ATX12V 2.2 / EPS12V 2.91 Power Supply - Retail (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139007)

seriously, you can probably get by with a lot less power...post up your specs and the PSU Gurus can help you pick a PSU that will get you where you need to go without costing an arm and a leg

i would stick with names you can trust
corsair, silverstone, seasonic, pc power and cooling (still overpriced though), even the new antecs are faring pretty well

Check the front page of www.jonnyguru.com in oh, say, five days from now. Don't buy one until you read my review of the 900W and see if you still want one afterwards ;)

Caillech,

In the past, Apevia power supplys have had a reputation as an alternative to roadside bombs, perhaps Oklahoma Wolf's forthcoming review will prove otherwise.

If a 1000 watts is a must for you, Then I would suggest this Corsair, $244 with free shipping.

Ok, I know you don't want to give it away, I am however going to venture a guess and say that I think the 4th of July might have come early on your test bench.....

Let's just say I discovered an unintended operating mode for it and leave it at that until Monday...

I RMA'ed one of these because my Tagan ABS BZ700 was BETTER!

They look cool and the LED's change color, that's about it.

So... realistically how much power do i need? I was only going with the 1000 for the future, when I upgrade in a year or two and the newest and greatest hardware is out id have enough power for it. I am going to run a q6600 with a single water cooling loop on it, raptor 150gb, 500gb storage HD, SLI 8800 gts', 4gb ram inside a thermaltake armor full tower (lots of big fans :santa: ) and id like some extra power for room to overclock.

A solid 650w could run that easily. Corsair uses seasonic OEM, so their stuff is all fairly reliable.

This BFG should do the trick, Top notch Engineering, Top Notch warranty, Plenty of horsepower and you still have room to grow in the future.

thanks for the input indy, was just looking around. you posted an 800w would a 750W for a lot cheaper hold up? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139006

Hmm.. So you were looking for a 1000W @ $250 and now a 800W @ $200 is too much?

I don't get it. :p

8800 GTS will work with a good 600W no problem. But you also mentioned future-proofing. If GTX 280's suddenly became affordable and you went that route, you'll need a good 800W for SLI.

I definitely appreciate the help, don't get me wrong. I was just going with what you guys were saying about being able to get by with less and if i can save the money on that and it will do the trick it would be awesome. that 800W looks nice and I was by no means ruling it out but simply throwing out other options for thought. I'm pretty lost in this decision just trying to throw out some topics for discussion :)

OW,

Thank you for your input. This model performed better than I anticipated from previous demolition experiments with Apevia. Perhaps the side windows are bullet proof Lexan? :)

I was somewhat disappointed in your tests, I expected more of a light show! :D

not sure how you all feel about the Ultra products, but I picked up the x3 1000w for $189.xx w/ free shipping from http://www.directron.com/ult40064.html a couple months ago.

its since gone up and now costs $209.xx which still isnt too bad.

i am not fond of Ultra products, but JG and OW have tested the X3 line and their professional opinion is that it is a great line

I haven't tested the X3 - Madmat did all the work on that one. Still, they're excellent units.

Don't tell that to Al Qaeda. They'll put these things in all our computers.
