I was looking to buy a new fan for a new K7 1700+ processor. I have some ideas, looking at some models from Globalwin and Vantec, not sure if it is worth buying an Alpha or Swiftech fan.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you go to heavy overclocking than the Swiftech and PAL8045 are sort of worth it but their sound are awful since your going to mount a jet engine on them.

What kind of motherboard do you have?

What kind of budget are you on?

My recommendation for the XP is Millennium Glaciator II for air cooling as it is full copper and the best heatsink after PAL8045 and MCX-462 and its fairly quiet, small and it'll fit on all motherboards if you can at least fit the AMD Retail fan.

The Global Win aren't really good at all as well as the Vantec's.

If you have bucks to burn go water cooling as it is the most quiet and most efficent.

I am going to be getting a Epox 8KHA+ motherboard. It was in a nice sweet spot for bios options, ddr ram abilities, etc.

So what are your plans then for heatsink?

I just bought a Vantec CCK-6035D today as a matter of fact, for my Athlon 1700XP,after much reading,I decided on this one.

I got it for $24.99 here (http://store.yahoo.com/buycaseonline/index.html) and read review here (http://www.tweaktown.com/document.php?dId=88&dType=review)

Oh, oops.

I forgot about heatsink.
(I thought that the fan was on top of a heatsink that came with the fan, kind of a combo for cpu cooling)
If you mean about heatsinks for RAM or the Video Card, I saw some nice looking Thermaltake "kits" (not sure if that is the right term).

Ack, I can feel the curse of newbieness...ah...darkness...closing....in....*gaa h*.....

Your kind of making no sense.

The heatsink is the thing about near the top of your case located above your CPU cooling it...

Those ThermalTake product for your video card memory are called ramsinks.

The heatsink of the CPU is what important when overclocking since video card doesn't get hot when overclocking the CPU only gets hot when you overclocked the card itself.

I have no idea what you are talking about.

What is circled is what I believe is a heatsink...

I am sorry for my lack of knowledge. I am trying to learn more about a hobby I really enjoy.

Thank you for any further help.

If it fits, I'd recommend the Alpha 8045 with a quiet 80mm fan. Good performance without too much noise according to reviews.
