Make sure you have the latest updates and drivers for your computer, like the video, soundcard, via(if you have that), etc. Sounds more like a driver issue than a XP issue.

If your talking where Win XP says it is safe to shut down your computer and doesn't shut down thats Windows NT Kernal for you.

It isn't automatic like Win 98 where it shuts down auto for you.

IT doesn't bother me since I don't shut down at all..

Just hold the power switch on the front panel and after 5 secs of holding it, it should turn off.

If your computer's BIOS is Plug and Play-compatible, you can use Control Panel / Power Options to select the APM tab and check the Enable Advanced Power Management Support box.

NEVER, EVER, NEVER do an upgrade....read my lips, people....FRESH INSTALL!!! And freezing on your boot or reboot or shutdown could be a problem with your mobo, or your HDD...I have a Q-lity mobo that hangs on shutdown with XP, and anAOpen board that did it because of a bad HDD....

After turning ACPI off my machine with XP doesn't shut down by itself anymore it gets to a screen that sais it is now safe to turn off your comp.

Another thing that can cause this problem is software that you install. For example after installing EZCD Creator 5 XP would no longer do a restart. The problem turned out to be with the packet writing part of the app (direct cd) and dissabaling it fixed the prob, it puts a icon in your tray at startup. So check your recent software installs out.

You should get the lastest fixes from Roxio.com as it instructs you to download a few patches and after install dont reboot and install the patches as well as the update to 5.03c

My mobo is the Asus p4t and my HD is the Maxtor 7200 Fireball and the WD 7200 ? so im not sure if its my stuff...or if its the upgrade? also can i formate reinstall in NTFS but not the other drives? becoes i have 110gig's of backed up stuff that i need to keep?

I'm not sure about the format....how many partitions do you have? If you have more than one, then move all your stuff offa the root drive and format...if you only have one prtition, use Partition Magic to re-partition your drives, move everything offa the root, and format it. I know you are "supposed" to be able to upgrade, but this is not generally the best thing to do. Also, If you are o/c'ing the machine, your voltages can drop to other components, such as your HDD, causing a failure to read the data correctly, and a hang at start-up or reboot...also true w/ the mobo

I use ol' faithful...Nero 5.5. There is a compatability issue (I'm told...) with XP, so I downloaded the update...but I never had a problem with it to begin with. It runs flawlessly on my system...cd-rw is in siggy...never used Roxio, sorry, so I couldn't tell you a thing about it...

i'm not sure about updates for cdrwin, but i know of a great utility for converting bin/cue files to iso files (WinISO) and if my memory serves me right, cdrwin will recognise ISO files?!?!?!
