I'm thinking of getting the DirecWay satellite internet, but Im told they use a USB modem.

DirecWay says it can be networked to a USB router for internet sharing. Problem is, I can't find a USB router in the USA !

The only one I found was a Vigor 2200 that's over-seas and rather expensive.

Has anyone tried a USB to Ethernet adaptor? I'm told these won't work either becasue there is no way the USB modem can talk to the adaptor?

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

For cost effectivity just use software proxy server software that will share the satelite connnectivity to your client computers, without the huge cost!!

Try Proxy+ Or AnalogX from www.download.com

Here is a router that accepts a usb line in then you hook your computers up in the normal fashion. http://www.seg.co.uk/draytek/products/vigor2200usb.html

Internet sharing isn't the problem.. THat's easy!

I don't want to leave a dedicated computer on at all times.
This is whay a router is in order.

And YES.. I've seen the Vigor 2200. Problem is, it's over-seas, and expensive. I don't know about you, but I'm keeping all my money in the USA where it belongs.

Thanks for the replies...

I might just be stupid, but what about something like this Linksys USB cable/dsl router (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005AFIT/002-5124362-8080066)?

the linksys won't work because the usb port on it is for connecting to a computer (slave device) and the modem is also a slave device... you need at least 1 master device on a USB chain.
