I have a 2900xt and im trying to get the sound through the hdmi working. So far i've updated to catalyst 8.5 and installed the realtek drivers from the realtek website. Now when I plug in the cable vista says the hdmi plug is disconnected (in the sound panel thing) any ideas? I would like to get this working.

Download these (http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDownload/Ati-HD-2900XT-HDMI-Driver-5004000108-WHQL-Download-33011.html) 2900XT HDMI audio drivers.

I have a couple of questions. Are you using the HDMI adapter that came with the card with an HDMI cable, or are you using an HDMI-to-DVI cable? Also did you download the Catalyst 8.5 WDM driver? Under your device manager > sound, video and game controllers, you should see the ATI T200 AVStream device. The use of that adapter with an HDMI cable and the WDM drivers are required to get the HDMI audio working. I installed the WDM driver and checked it's functionality just a few minutes ago to make sure I was giving you good information. Unfortunately I'm running XP x64 so the drivers are a bit different, but as long as the T200 AVStream drivers are installed and you're using that included HDMI-to-DVI adapter port, it should work. Also if you haven't done so, make sure your sound device is switched to the ATI T200. This is the on-board sound device on the 2900XT. You shouldn't be using any Realtek device to get sound through the card. Sound won't go from any other sound device, through the 2900XT.
Hope this helps you out.
