Anyone know a site where I can choose exactly which processor you buy (by stepping or model). I want to buy another 1.0 GHz PIII, but I want to be sure I can get the cD0 stepping... Thanks.

According to this (http://support.intel.com/support/processors/sspec/p3p.htm), the only P3 1000E thats fc-pga is cDo stepping.

A 1 gig your guaranteed a cD0 stepping.

If your going for say a Celeron 800 there is a possiblity of cC0 or cD0.

But trust me if you mention stepping to Intel when say you fry your chip and you want to RMA they'll straight up say no and know your overclocking.

On a Celeron you are guaranteed cDo. On a PIII, you can get stuck with cCo at 100Mhz.

Also, I have RMA'd a chip to Intel before. It was a bad chip with an L2 cache problem... they gave me an RMA Authorization number, and I sent it in, and I got a replacement 2 days later. I didn't burn the chip, I didn't ven have the chance to OC it, but they don't always say no.

As far as getting exact stepping... your best bet would be Ebay where sometimes people list the step code of their processors... look for one that hasn't been OC'd or maybe is even new or unused. It does happen. Most online stores will not honor a request to find exact stepping because they don't wanna spend 5 hours tearing open boxes to find the one you're looking for.

Thanks guys. Actually, I'm looking for a 1.0GHz EB chip, not the 100 FSB. And no, I'm not guarenteed a cD0 stepping, cause currently I have a 1.0GHz EB with the cC0 stepping...

I think I'm gonna order from newegg.com.

I heard somewhere that if you contact intel you might be able to send them the "wrong" stepping for the right one... just have to say it's for a dual rig... don't quote me... I just read it somewhere.;)
