View Full Version : Just got OCZ Gladiator - Niceness!
Wow, I am just stunned by my new purchase. An OCZ Gladiator with a Delta38 fan and a Sanyo Denki 80mm 53CFM fan. The results speak for themselves. Although I've yet to get some conclusive idle/load temps, right now, my load temps are at around 26/35. My previous load temps were 35/42 but usually 1-2 degrees higher when I leave my computer on for long periods. Can't believe an addage of a case fan made such a large difference. More cooling to come for sure.
Interestingly, I don't seem to find the combo I have now overbearing. Yes, they are loud, but not loud enough to bother me. I was waiting for more of that "whine" noise that I thought these highspeed fans put out, but that's not really the case. Tell me if I'm either a psycho, a freak, or just plain going deaf :D
Just to let you know, my tower is about 1 foot away from me. It is sitting on a raised table about 2 inches shorter than my desk. I must be going deaf
Hmmm...I don't know if I've done something wrong, but the cpu temps haven't gone down too much with the new hs/fan. In somewhat formal fashion, my load temps look like it's around 30/39 +/- 1c. For some reason, still looks rather high. This is only a 2-3 degree difference with my Volcano II. I didn't apply any thermal compound and the thermal pad on the hs, I ripped off. I doubt I installed the hs the wrong way since it can only go on one way. I also saw noticeable streaks on the hs. I forgot to run my finger along the bottom but would lapping be a good idea and perhaps bring the temps down?
Concerning my Delta38 now. It's rated at 6800RPM, however it's only spinning at around 6300RPM. I know the fan speed is dynamic and can vary from the written specs, but 500rpm below?? Did I get a crap fan or is this how fast the delta38 goes at?

Hmmm, well that's really the least of my baffling new goodies.
Must've gotten the temps mixed up. Idle temps now look like it's around 26/35. Still rather high I think.

Get some thermal compound. That will lower your temps. What are you using to get your load temps?
Prime95. Seems to be more accurate than Sandra.

I think a good few hours folding is good as kendan will agree!!
Folding, Seti, prime 95, and Toast are good for getting your full load temp. With Toast I was 2-3 degrees hotter than Folding.
Hmmm...I know I can find most of them...anyone know where I can get Toast?
ANyways, right now, I'm wanting cooler temps rather than getting hotter temps.
You want to run your CPU up to its highest temperature? Download BurnK6.exe from the suite of heating utilities provided by Swiftech. It is contained in the following download:
http://www.overclockers.com/tips166/cpuburn2.zip
Forget the other programs. Just use BurnK6. It beats the pant off of Prime95 (which I use) or any of the distributed processing apps. Period, end statement! I do not believe it checks for errors incurred as a result of running to high an overclock for a given temperature, but it is great for simple burning in and testing your cooling solution.
73, Hoot
I'm w/ Hoot.
CPUBurn is an excellent program and I use to get 32 Full load with Seti. With CPUBurn I got 38..
Yodums
Thanks.
Ok, I ran Burnk6 for a few hours. Load temps peak at 29/43. Still feels strangely high for me. I ran prime for just over an hour, and it would squeeze out at 28/38. Nonetheless, anything else I can do to bring down temps? ASII is coming. Perhaps more fans? The results right now don't look too satisfying
