So basically it's just a video version of Playstation Magazine except Sony makes the money instead of Future. Clever.

I agree I'll wait it out for demos, add ons to games etc since this is just a way to have a play with them earlier and now whats coming people will post what they've read/seen in the vids anyways.
And it's not like the Sony PS Store has been alive with great downloads has it.

Exactly, they're wanting paid for something that should be free. I hope this fails as much as the GT5 demo did (well outside of Europe at least).....

Er... I wouldn't call ~600,000 copies sold in NA and 300,000+ in Asia for what you call a "demo" a failure. You're being pretty dang cynical...

iaacp, nearly everybody these days calls it a demo because that is what it is. When GT 4 sold 11 million copes, GT 3 sold 15 million copies, GT 2 sold 10 million copies and the original sold 11 million then by those standards 600k is a failure.

I can see arguments for it being free, but what's the difference in paying for this or paying for a printed magazine? I'm not really seeing the huge deal here.

I got an email today talking about this. all I see is Qore looks queer.
$2.99 an episode or $24.99 Annual
for $24.99 Annual subs can download the game "calling all cars"
Exclusive access to beta's,demo's etc
sound like fileplanet but for the PS3

Game reviews, previews, pretty ads, no drm (Read it as many times as you want, even if your eyes fail you), its physical, you can read it on the crapper, and it has interesting content. Unlike the uninteresting content in this.

Qore will feature exclusive news, developer interviews, in-depth game previews and behind-the-scenes looks at PlayStation games and special access to game demos, special beta invitations, game add-ons and other downloadable game-related content.

I dunno... still sounds like the same thing as PSM to me, as long as they provide enough content per episode. Except for being able to read it on the toilet, of course, though maybe you can stream it through your PSP? :D

The "demo" fudge said nobody in their right minds would pay 40 dollars for sells six-hundred THOUSAND copies... demo be damned!... and fudge calls it a failure.
His rationale? "All these FULL GAMES sold MILLIONS of copies! The demo is a failure!"
Now we all see what Console Gaming Systems requires: CONSTANT VIGILANCE!
Just so you know... demos have sold for varying amounts of money for as long as demos have existed (I personally paid about $2 at Software Etc for the Prince of Persia 2 demo almost 20 years ago.) I've personally never heard of a demo selling 600,000 units... but I'm sure it has. Hell... I'm sure demos have sold even better. But I also think 600,000 is pretty damned good.

How many wow demos have sold? I know i bought one but not for the same reason as others might.
Fudge is right about this one though. The WoW demo is 2 bucks, this demo is full price. That's the difference, and quite significant. Many of those 600k might have thought it was a full game, only to be extremely disappointed. And the ones that bought the wow disc might have been disappointed too... but not full price disappointed, 2 bucks disappointed.

I don't know why they released the Prologue to North America this time around, they should've known that Americans will just whine about it. :) In case anyone has forgotten, Gran Turismo 4 had the same type of Prologue, we just didn't get the love last time here in the States.
Their Prologues tend to have superior content to other full-blown racing games available on the market. I can hold out this time around since I still have a backlog of games to play/finish, but last time around on GT4 I was playing the hell out of the Prologue before the final game came out.

I never knew there was a demo errr prologue for 4 until I started looking at sales figures.... It's just plain stupid. I really really just do not comprehend the people who paid $40 for this and are satisfied..... I mean, I think I'm going to open a restaurant catered to these people. I'm going to sell them a hamburger and fried for $6 but then before their food comes out, I'm going to give them 4 fries and 1/10 of an ounce of hamburger for $4. They'll love it!!!!

You're talking two million sold at 2 bucks and 600k sold at FORTY bucks. Somehow I don't think that's a failure for a demo. I've never even heard of a demo (since "we've" agreed on calling it that) selling for 40 bucks. Now forty times six hundred thousand is 24,000,000... (24 million dollars).
By no means... no way you choose to measure it... by no MATH is making 24 million dollars off of a demo a failure.

To who? I don't think anybody was "fooled" into buying GT5 Prologue (Maybe the "Prologue" part should've been a strong hint.) The 7-30 day trial included on the $2 W.O.W. disc could've been downloaded for free at the fastest speeds known to humanity. GT5 Prologue cannot.
W.O.W. was therefore less worthy of its price.

Wow is more worthy of the price. You get the full game, not a demo. There isn't a limited race you can select, no class you can't use, they used to limit the lvl but not anymore. With the prologue you pay FULL PRICE FOR A GAME THAT IS INCOMPLETE!

They didn't go out and buy it, but I think my point is 100% valid. You remember the demo discs when we were younger (You are probably older than me). You'd pay up to 5 bucks for 10 demos, and they were complete demos too! Comander keen, Doom, Wolfenstein, etc were complete episodes. Thats a demo. But this one is 40 bucks for not even as much stuff.
The price tag along probably fooled many people, I would not be shocked by this. In the old days, if you were fooled, it was 5 bucks gone (or 2 for WoW). For this one, its a whole 40 bucks! Thats practically full price man.

Well at least you proved we're both almost over the hill. :)
Not many of those demos featured online multiplayer. If they did (maybe you could pull off online multi in the doom and doom 2 demos... perhaps in Descent or Warcraft 2) then they didn't allow you to choose 15 different levels and 60 different characters. Demos, in general, were far superior back in the day to demos of today. You got to play three levels of Doom... two levels of Doom 2 and I think just one (albeit LONG) level of Quake.
Nowadays even a demo like Burnout Paradise is considered a revelation, whereas, back in the day... it would've just been considered shareware. (Proportionally speaking.)
No one in their right minds would believe that GT5 just happened to be on sale for a bargain price of $39.99. Twenty dollars off for no reason at all? Forget it. I heard a lot of people ask about it at gamespot... and everyone who asked was told it was more or less a demo. Everyone who DIDN'T ask was told it was a demo.
And everyone who wasn't told and really didn't know... should have known better.

How is it a complete game? You can play GT5 Prologue for as long as the PS3's network continues to exist. I don't think there's any way of continuing with your character and stats from the W.O.W. demo without paying the full price for the monthly fees (and possibly also paying for the game).
It may be possible... if you have enough email addresses... to keep buying the demo over and over again and start with a new character every time.

I just told you why its not complete :). All of the charaters, classes, skills, races, items, etc... no bull****. Not 30% of everything, no gimmicks, just plain old full game for 7 days. THATs how a demo should be. Not some $40 dollar "omg its is like...TOTALLLY almost the game."

No, its the complete game. 100% of everything is in there. Plus 2 bucks, you can't go wrong man. Whereas, $40 bucks for an incomplete game is a total rip. Thats almost full price.
You guys might not agree with me, but I think deep down inside you would. You both have the same experiences with demos I do. the 5 dollar discs with like 5 games on them, or the CDs that were cheaper, and had much more! These were incomplete games as well, but at least with some of these games, you got a decent amount of playtime out of them. With GT5P, you get lots of play time (no doubt there), but you're playing half the game for most of the price. Thats the difference.

A full game for 7 days is NOT a full game. You're talking about a game you can play for 7 days that costs 2 bucks versus a game that you can play forever that costs 40 bucks... or did you miss that part?

Well if you want to get technical you can play it perpetually forever. However, its the complete game and thats the point I'm making. A COMPLETE GAME for 2 bucks. Besides, it isn't even that good of an example. Most demos are free, not $40 bucks. And you can play many of those demos forever too... :).
