Hmmm so someones offered me a nice price for my 1.4Ghz athlon so my next move is to the XP chip.
Now I hear the XP is harder to overclock dothe chips don't not come as unlocked? Why is it harder?
as XP's run cooler anyway normal clock speed, do they overclock to a higher speed cause of this more stably?
BTW the alpha pal 8045 is on order, to be delivered soon :D
What would you go for? :)
If $£€ isn't a problem, then I would go for an AThlon XP. Even at the same Mhz, the XP will be faster as it uses SSE, 3DNow Pro and other differences in the core.

yes I know the benefits of the XP chip for sure, but I wish to overclock it to get even more.
Right now my 1.4 Tbird is at 1.53 stable, so I want to do the same with an XP chip :)
i have a 1.33ghz(1500+)xp running at 1.6ghz(1900+) so if u want a good oc then the xps definetly can do very good :)

good advice :)
I hear they all come locked and are lazer cut so the pencil trick doesn't work. Is it hard to unlock em?
Your mobo will also influence your overclock.

Works great with the 1.4 for overclocking, I'm not sure if the XP chip is worth it, but there again I'm not sure what's going on and hence the first questions hehehe
I don't know about the T-BIRD 1.4, but I've had no problem reaching 1.6G+ with my XP1600 with air cooling.
As stated above, the motherboard selection as well as other peripherals, will greatly influence the results that you achieve.
The prices on the XP's are inching down as I wright this, I would expect them to be in the $100+/- range soon.
I would go with the XP, however if money is an issue, consider the "Morgan" core DURON. These are the DURONs of 1G or higher and have the same enhancements of the XP line of processors with less onboard cache. I've seen the 1G DURON available at New Egg for $50. I'm considering one myself to upgrade one of my DURON 600's.
Good Luck!
