I want to buy a DVD drive but I'm not sure which drive to get out of the two drive I like. One has ATA 66 but only a 256Kb memory buffer while the other has ATA 33 and a 512Kb memory buffer. Which one is better?? ( I'm guessing that the drive with ATA 66 is better ).

Go with the one that spins the disk faster. I presume thats the ATA 66 one...

the pioneer 16x slot load dvd drives come in several flavors :)
ATA 33, 256k buffer
ATA 33, 512k buffer
ATA 66, 256k buffer
ATA 66, 512k buffer

the oem ones that are under $70 are the first one on the list, then the farther down the list you get the higher the price is

i havent seen any other dvd drives other than pioneer that come in ata 66 but im most likeley wrong cuz ive only been looking at the pioneer ones lateley :p

They are both 16x DVD and 48x CD-ROM. The one with the ATA66 and 256Kb buffer is an AOpen DVD drive, while the other with the ATA33 and 512Kb buffer is an LG DVD. I would prefer the LG as it is shorter in length compaired to the AOpen drive.

Thanks for the replies, but no one has given me a straight answer. Which DVD drive so you guys think is better????

1. AOpen DVD drive with: ATA66, 256Kb memory buffer, bigger in length and weight.

OR
2. LG DVD drive with : ATA33, 512Kb memory buffer, smaller in length and weight.

Both drives cost the same amount. Any replies with a choice of either no. 1 or no. 2 would be fantastic!! ;)

I guess I would say #2 because DVD video transfers more than 33MB/s never happen. And its got a bigger buffer.

yea go with number 2.

I agree...DVD drives do not transfer at speeds past 33m/sec anyway so I don't see much of a need for 66. The more the buffer the better though, so go for the one with the 512k buffer.
