Well, my quad is currently down for the count. I lost a hard drive in my matrix RAID... so it wont be to bad to recover, I just have to get a hard drive replacement.

Yeah one out of the three died, sigh. It has only been about 10 months to, just my luck this week too. My car was totaled on Wednesday (engine is shot), so I get to look for a new car as well.

Man, just having a bad week. I suggest changing weeks after today. ;)
BTW - what was the HDD - and the car, for that matter ...???

Am I missing something, or were they not really in a RAID configuration?
Seven of my machines are 5+ years old, so I have taken to keeping a spare P/S and a disk drive handy. I'm loosing one or the other about every 2 months.

His RAID setup used striping (RAID 0), that means no fault tolerance.
Could you boot a live linux CD and run from there?

Sorry to hear about the loss mate. Car and your PC? Your two babies :( Hope you kept backups of really important stuff. Know the cause of the HDD crap out? If theres some underlying cause, might not want to be too quick in putting in a new HDD.
Just a thought. Hope you get that rig back up and running asap :)

Car: 89 Toyota Corola - 175k miles
HD: Seagate 7200.10 Perpendicular drive (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148140)
The first 40gig of each drive was a RAID0 the rest of the drive is in RAID5. Just have to put the new drive in, boot to get the image off the RAID5 and onto the RAID0 and I am back in business. Though I went and bought a 4th drive to increase everything... so I will be copying files around on the RAID5 and rebuilding it.

Hmm.. didnt think you could have a matrix raid with anything other than RAID0 and RAID1 :o interesting. Hope you get it sorted mate :)
