Well I knew these were coming out soon but I needed a card for the time being anyway. I ended up going with a msi 8800gts from newegg. Considering these cards will be out in the next 10-20 days. Im wonder what kind of impact on the price of the other cards these could have? I have a 30 day limit to get my money back from new egg. So if a 9800gx2 ends up taking a 200$ dive after this or even some other cards way above the 8800gts I should have enough time to return my current card get my money and put it towards one of the cards thats dropped.
My main concern is how big the price drop will be. If its real significant I really want to take advantage of it since no one likes getting a crappy deal. Just hopefully newegg will let me get my full refund they should anyways if its less than 30days.

9800GX2 will be discontinued once the new cards come out, so it should get a huge price drop.

I think that the 9800gx2 may not even get a price drop, and just be completly forgoten. Or it will be very minimal.

Well the stores have to get rid of their stock, no? Only way for that is a massive pcb and plastic bonfire to please to gods of gtx or lowering prices.

You make a good point pimp but I think they would only lower it if the new cards cost less or very close.

New cards are expected at 650 for the 280 and 500 for the 260. Nobody will buy a 500 dollar GX2 when they have a gtx 260 right there...

If thos prices are solid then the gx2 should have a decent price drop.

The primary reason why I HATE PC gaming, when im having my bad days. You never know they might come up with a mid-range card performing close to GTX 260. (like 8800GT/GTS g92 with 8800GTX)

I think a lot of people will see the new cards out and think the GX2 is still 2x as fast. Way to go marketing people.

It's just part of the twisted game we play. I'd be perfectly happy with a GX2.

If you're gonna play these games where alot of money is at stake, then it prolly means money is not an issue in the first place. In which case any card is a great buy.

Hell im perfectly happy with my 8800 gtx it still plays everything on high fine except crysis. but for some reason I have the need for speed and ill probably sell my gx2 like tomorrow and get a 280 when it comes out. I bet though the 280 gets replaced in 3 months time with a faster/better/cheaper version when it gets a die shrink.

exactly!
I think 8800GTX owners have to be the happiest consumers! Its just awesome! Sure there is 8800GTS G92 now...but still the gtx is a class in its own!

Hopefully those who bought a gx2 in the past month bought it from evga, that step up program should take care of it.

would be nice iv the gx2 drop to like 200-250. Def would ship back my 8800gts and replace it with that would be a hell of a deal.

Completely agree, almost two years since my purchase and I'm still very happy with it. :D
