Hey guys..i need to add...1 buttload of hard drives, different sizes to my Dual g5...problem is i cant put them all inside, so i'd love to get one of those external enclosures that lets you mix n match drives

Only they cost a ton, and it seems to me there has to be a simpler/cheaper route, of just getting say the hardware and putting it into my own case/psu

Anywhere this is possible? I'm looking to start with 4 drives. I have firewire 800 on my mac, and its a buetiful thing compared to usb

Thanks in advance

You could use a computer such as a P3 and make a Network Attatched storage box out of it..

Cheapest I have seen with firewire 800 is almost 400 bucks: http://www.compsource.com/ttechnote.asp?part_no=MS4B&vid=2307&src=F

You really don't need firewire 800 unless you need raw HD capability and portability. There are cheaper internal SATA kits to put up to 3 drives internally in the G5 cases:

Or you can just get a cheap 3 to 5 bay computer case with gigabit ethernet and make your own NAS case.
