I realize this is probably a dumba** question to most of you but I am still new at learning overclocking. I have the following memory:

Mushkin 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory

I am trying to boost my FSB to increase CPU overclock and am running into a roadblock at about 300. Computer does not want to boot past that. Initially, I had a Gigabyte P35-DSR3 Version 1.0 motherboard and had no problem at all getting to 360 with it. When it fried, I replaced it with the same model except a version 2.0. It does not want to go beyond 300 FSB. I suspect that the motherboard will require the tweaking to get past that point. Before I go any further, I want to know what kind of FSB I can expect out of this memory at 1:1 ratios. Hope this question makes sense. Still learning. The CPU is a quad 6600 GO stepping.
Thanks for your help.

Jim

i would double check the memory voltage.if its still on auto the chipset is probably only providing 1.8v rather than what those mushkin need(2.0-2.1?).the easiest way to find out what those will do max stable is to test them :) run a divider and try to keep your cpu at stock while pushing the memory.once you hit a wall try loosening the timings and see if that allows for a little more speed.you can also try adding a little voltage to increase the max stable.
my assumption is youll probably top your 6600 out before the memory.unless youve got really good cooling temps will likely dictate your oc once you hit 400fsb 1:1.

Just to make sure I have it right. Theoretically, a stick of DDR2 400 should do a FSB of 400 without being overclocked, right?

yep 1:1 your spot on.

OK. Obviously, the problem has to be motherboard related, which I kind of figured since I could easily get to 360 FSB with the same memory and CPU with the old motherboard. From what I can tell, the only option for increasing the FSB capability of the motherboard is motherboard voltage. Let me get into bios and see what I have. Thanks again.
