View Full Version : ***Upgrading advice!!!***
hi everyone..been hearing a lot of good things about the forums so just joined :)
could someone tell me if i should sell my 8800GT sli and wait for the new gtx 260? it would be roughly around $450 right? now i know its not out yet and one cant be sure but are they expected to perform better than 8800GT sli? I can sell mine for roughly ~$400. i have a decent sys and currently my cpu isn't a bottleneck
thanks! :)

i'd wait for them to be released and get some benchmarks first, then if you're not too sure, you can wait for a price drop :)
:welcome: to the forum. I would wait and buy the new cards if your wallet is good lol. These newer cards are looking to be beasts compared to the current hardware out now. Check this post out for complete details and rumors lol.

Thank you!
oh i thought the $400 might sound good to you all and you would ask me to go ahead with it. because of the price drops what if i dont get this good money for it later on? thats my only concern.
If you wait for the new cards and if they are too much for you, then since the prices SHOULD drop you might be able to get 2 8800GTS 512 cards for a very nice SLI setup. That is what I am gonna do. Then i'm gonna vmad them and oc the crap out of them after I get a pair of VF1000 Zalman coolers.

I just got my 8800gt new for 140$ at newegg. If you can sell them for 400 do it fast. Why not just wait six more months tell the new new junk comes out to replace the new junk that everyones got to have now. Then get it for half price. :)
How about I get an EVGA 9800GX2 at no EXTRA cost and step-up later on?

I guess that depends on what they are going to make you pay to step up. I hear it might be kinda on the high side from some of the post I read. Like about 100$ more then you would pay at say newegg. But having paid 699$ for my utima and 100$ for a wb a year ago and now seeing that my 8800 gt in my other computer is is putting out 12000 3d6 marks (8800 ultra put out 13000). Im never going to pay that much again for a video card. My new way of thinking is let the others pay to get the new items, im going to just wait 8 months tell I can get the same for 1/5 the price.
okay...so maybe I wont step up. but i can get a 9800gx2 without any loss. how does that sound? is it worth it? sli is hit and miss...you dont really get 100% scaling...and i dont like the coolers on the gt
