As some of you may remember, back a few years ago I was a pretty decent overclocker, at least on the older hardware. Well I am slowly getting back into it with some of the newer playthings :screwy:. So since I am really out of date on most of the latest OCing "averages", was wondering how this Diamond Viper HD3850 was doing. It is stock when it comes to the heating solution, havent even added AS5 as of yet. But with the way of this stock cooling, not sure if it would seriously help out all that much.
As of right now, I am just messing with the HD. I havent done any serious tweaks on anything ran, so please dont pay attention to the score (do not own 06, so no score anyways :P ). I also am in the midst of a reinstall, so I only ran 01 and 06 for stress test.
It can go higher on memory, but right now this setting seems to be a pretty good sweet spot.
Please be nice on the inputs...its been awhile :santa:. Thanks.
Although those are good, I think those 3850s and 3870s can go alot higher. I have seen alot of the 3800 series cards in the 800s for the core. My suggestion would be to go go go lol. in case you dont know, download atitool and scan for artifacts and then once you get em just back off a few mhz and there ya go. Good luck and welcome back.
Not sure how the 3850's are fairing, I thought I saw low 800's pretty easily on the cores. I hit 865 on my 3870 without too much trouble but I run it at 851.

810 = 30x27
Watch the temps though, I am not sure if anyone is really sure what the safe temp is for these chips. I don't like going over 57*C until someone pulls a proper spec from somewhere.
imho, no point in overclocking the mem, I could not see it doing that much when I tested. I have a slow CPU and AGP bus though.

Low 800's...that might be with more then just stock cooling ;)...I just took off the HS and added AS5 about 20 minutes ago...plus I also lapped the stock heatsink...yes I know its alum. but you can still lap it enough to make the ridges smooth...so far this has help at little...
Using ATI Tool Try (ATI Tools will not work correctly) I was able to get to 786 before the VC locked...with a few days letting the AS5 do its wonders...I might be able to get into the 790's on stock cooling...
Maybe if I can find a good cooling solution that wont kill every inch I have with dual 3850's I possible could see the low 800's...
Indeed, I wasn't considering a stock cooling solution. :) Have you checked the scores on the stickied thread?

Yup. I have a stable core at 875.

Are you using stock cooling oaks (heatsink, no ramsinks, etc.)?

Yes. Although the bios is 'aftermarket'.
