I just read the review about the new northwood chip, compared w/ XP 2000+ (1.67GHz). In applications which mainly use only the CPU XP is much much better about 23-25% better, but in games, Northwood is faster, though not by too much. the link to the review is on the front page. I really don't think that the Northwood is worth the new mobo + high priced CPU, but for some it may be?
What u think?
The Northwood it's self isn't faster, the extra memory bandwidth it's motherboard offers is faster, but it's that speed that holds it back in other things due to the high latency of such fast memory.

Yea I know that what holds AMD back is the FSB its their bottle neck. I wish we could see a 533FSB AMD any time soon or compare a P4 w/ AMD on the same FSB... I think then we would really see who's the boss!
Why though? it's only a bottle neck when playing games on the fastest setting where you get like 200+ fps, you don't buy hardware like this to play at those settings, you play so it looks great, and at those settings the vid card is gonna be the bottleneck regardless of memory bandwidth or processor power, the p4's power is pointless for this reason, it wins in benchmarks that don't matter.
Personaly I think the p4 is okay, but If I had a a choice between a p4 and a 1.2 p3 tutail (speliing?) I would go with the p3 honestly because of overclockablitly...But givein a choice between intel and amd..amd all the way..reguardless of benchmarks...Amd IS the best bang for your buck compared to the p4...some people will want all that power if they can afford it simply to have it...
AMD is king for gamers and will always be....but as always each platform has its good and bad points which makes them ideal for different uses...
Just my opinion.
Also IF im correct, I thought the p4's bus speed got tripled...like AMDS gets duobled...only p4's was "theroeticlty" tripled...
Someone correct me if Im wrong....

It got quadrupled (not tripled), and it floats somewhere between being theorhetical and real, same as the Athlon's FSB. It doesn't need to all the time, and it'd be tough for the P4 to saturate that much bus bandwidth, but yes, the P4 can transmit on the peak, equilibrium, low, and back up on the equilibrium in one clock cycle. Four times makes for an effective 4x in theorhetical throughput of information.
It still, however, is a 100 MHz FSB. If it was a 400 MHz FSB, it would transmit only at the peak of each cycle, and the clock itself would be clocked four times faster than the 100 MHz FSB, rather than transmitting four times per one cycle at 100 MHz.. It's a quad data rate 100 MHz bus.

actually, it's quadrupled, so it's FSBx4 = 400MHz FSB, or the upcoming 133x4=533MHz FSB.
Most of the software that the P4 wins is optimized for it. If AMD could convince programmers to optimize their software for AMD chips, then AMD would be crushing the Intel chips BIG TIME !!!
