I have a buddy that needs a new graphivs card. He is looking to spend under $100. Gaming will be mainly quake 3 , return to Wolfenstein and stuff like that. As a side note he was also thinking about a video card that he could hook up the s-video input from his camcorder to. Can this be done for under $100 with a card that will still look and play good or do we just need to worry about a good gaimg card on such a small budget?

no thats a slow card at a horrible price.....i suggest the Geforce2 GTS-V for 65$, or the Radeon32mbDDR for the same price both about twice as fast s the card in the link above, unfortunately i dont think you can get a card that games well and has Video Input for under a hundred dollars.....another good choice is the Radeon7500 for exactly 100$ at www.newegg.com very good gaming card....faster than the Geforce2 Ti and slower than the Geforce3 Ti200.......the cheapest VIVO card i know of is the Radeon64mbDDRVIVO, it runs about 150$.....

FOr under $100, You may want to check out a Kyro card. The PowerVR chipset sure is nothing to sneeze at, and even better is that it has great drivers.

no, why would you do that when a Gts or Radeon for the same price has almost twice the performance.....an MX400 doesnt make sense right now.....a KyroII as Ritteri said is also a good choice, the MX400 is not worth it....

My GF2 Ti outperforms Ati 7500's. Got it for $118 at newegg. However, I'd reccommend the Ati 7500 to you because it's really very close to the GF2 Ti and it's image quality is superior and it's about $100. Don't know about either of these having video input.

which 7500s are you talking about? almost all of the bencies i saw at 1024 and higher resolutions with 32 bit color were won by the 7500........it is a better card......also for future reference the charts at Madonion are crappy indicators of graphics card speed.....says my card is better than an Ultra and that my cpu could beat an Athlon 1.1GHZ....haha....

Your card is not faster than a 7500. Pretty much all tests at 1024x768 32 bit and higher that I have read show the 7500 as clearly being faster. It is pretty much almost as fast as an Ultra.

Here is a recent Dec/01 review, it is the best card for under a $100 by far. Image quality is much much bettr than a G2Ti200. Believe me you, I have done too much reading, research and emailing to figure this one out, LOL .......

My MX-400 benches about the same (slightly under, 500+/- 3D marks) as my friend's GTS, and is about $40 cheaper. $40 is the difference between me upgrading to a cell 1GHZ, and a PIII 1 Ghz. Add in the cost of the card, and you're talking about quite a performance difference. Not to mention, not all of us have cash that we can throw around freely.

imo the mx is crrrap. look into the 7500 a little more, you can find some awesome deals on it now and if i read you right your friend wants to use the s-video INPUT on his camcorder? the 7500 has exellent hi-res s-video output and would be perfect. also rtcw is a pretty hardcore came, if you wanna play something like that on a >$100 card you need the 7500 or at least a gts....

Not to throw a wrench into the mix and knowing its slower by a touch than the above cards but what about a voodoo card there cheap and run every game I throw at it. If your into fps than get the above cards, but if your on a budget????

Actually the s-video is an output on the camcorder he wants to load stuff from his camcorder into the computer............as far as a voodoo , I LOVE them , but haven't found any of the good ones (5500) for under $100. Besides as much as I love them (I still use one) I don't think it is the best card to advise someone to get.

Wait a minute I think the only card that can do what you want is the voodoo3 3500 which has both video in and out. Correct me if I'm wrong but then that would make it the card to recommend.

a Voodoo:eek:

check out www.pricewatch.com and you can get a much better card than the mx for 10$ more, KyroII, GTS, or Radeon32mbDDR....mx is not bad, but right now it doesnt make sense as low as the other prices are......

The Radeon 7500 does not outperform the Geforce 2 Ti, it is a good card with lots of features and fast, but all the benchtests show it finishing second to the Geforce 2 Ti. In my humble opinion the Geforce 2 Ti 32MB is the best bang for the buck. Pricewatch has the Inno3d card for $89 shipped. It comes with 5ns memory and no ramsinks, but I had a Inno3d Geforce Pro with 5ns that overclocked to 460MHz. The newer Ti core should hit 275-300MHz, this card at 275/460 will utterly destroy the MX-400, and is still faster than Kyro II. I have owned about 6 different Geforces and both the Inno3d and Gainward versions have superior 2D quality.
