that little cord...

could someone please tell me what that little cord that runs from the soundcard to the cd drive does??? i can't get winamp to play audio cd's and i'm thinking that since mine's not plugged in, that could be the problem.

That's the problem. That little wire sends cd audio to the sound card.

It handles analog cd audio, you don't need it if you are reading the information digitally like with say windows media player, or if you check the option in the system properties to read audio cd's digitally (windows 2000, me and xp only I think)
