I got an Athlon XP 1600+ not O/Ced. It runs at 48 C full load on a cold day w/ windows opened, and 51 C when the heater is on at about 70 F. I have a SK6 w/ delta (38CFM). I am going to get a 60 to 80 mm converter with a 42 CFM fan. Will this help? I know that 48 C is a good temp. but im worried about summer... :) Also, is Artic Alumina thermal compound better than a silver compound made by Vantec?
Its definitely too high for the SK6.
What fan do you have on the SK6?
Try turning off the CPU and move the heatsink on the core very gentil and see if it can move up or down and side to side.
I think the heatsink is not making good contact.
Reapply the thermal compound with a little bit more.

I re-installed the heatsink with about a pea sized amount of generic silver thermal paste and put a little of the paste onto the thermal sensor on the motherboard. It now reads 36 C on startup and 46 - 48 C on full load w/ SETI@home. Will it temps improve if I buy a 60mm to 80mm converter and put a 42.5 CFM fan on it? My current fan is a Delta w/ 38 CFM.
hmmm that's quite high for a SK6.. and AThlon Xp1600+..
I have a Volcano 7 on my XP1600+ and at full load its only 40C
Volcano 7 blows a nice 53CFM with the diode cut off.. hehehhe a converter might help you.. but going from 38cfm to 42 cfm wont help you much... try some thing like 68.5 CFM delta fan or even 85CFM ....you should try some ASII and maybe lapp your HS.

I have the exact same setup and it ran around 42 degree, however, it was in a Lian Li PC-60 case, so I have an advantage there.
I did use a 80mm to 60mm adaptor and dropped it to 37 degrees. You can read more on that here:

51C is not so high temperature.Put some eXtra coolers beside the tower. Some times it works.

ah, another sk6 owner, god bless ya brotha :)...seriously, just for more reference, have my 1.4 OC'd to 1.5 w/artic silverII and the SK6 is lapped (super boring 2hr job) and my system idles around 37-39C and full load is 46-48C.
btw, cpuload is prolly the best program to see how hot yer system gets, thanx WildOne!!
I ask hows the air flow within in the case?
If its bad then its most likely your heatsink is sucking in hot air.
You should have 300cfm within in the case if your overclocking AMD....

I would also ask the first question, what kind of case temps do u have? I'd also agree that if your case temps are high (bad air flow in case), then your just blowing hot air on the HS which obviously doesn't help as much.
I disagree with the 300cfm though. IMO, you don't need any more than maybe 150cfm if setup correctly and airflow is good. There was a thread about this quite a while back, where Hoot explained it.
