Just put together a system and have been going crazy
trying to figure out why the memory is clocking down
from the 1600 mhz it is supposed to be to 666 or 800
depending on settings. IF anyone has any idea please
throw them out.

system specs:
Xfx 790i ultra mb
q9450 cpu
patriot viper pc3-12800
bfg 9800gx2

try changing the FSB-RAM ratio. that might be the cause of the ram being set to 667 or 800. i'm guessing your fsb mighth be either 333 or 400?

:welcome: to the forums!

The Q9450 runs 1333mhz stock QDR, therefore your FSB will be 333mhz. So you ram should only be running at 666mhz as its DDR3 with a 1:1 FSB ratio. You need to change your FSB:RAM ratio so that you run your RAM at 1600mhz.

This is all assuming that nothing has been overclocked.

It's all about the FSB:RAM ratios mate. Andyl33t gave a good explanation about why.. do you know how to change ratios in BIOS?

I changed all the settings in the bios it reads 1333 FSB on the cpu and
1600 on the memory. The bios says thats what it detected last bootup then
it reads the same in windows 667 or 800 tops. Adjusting the ratios just made it lower.
