View Full Version : Thinking of watercooling
As summer is now here and the temperatures increased, I am considering putting water in my rig, how much of an improvement would I see? I am at stock clocks at the moment on a q6600 and my temps are as follows 25 for the room low 30's for the system, and high 30's to low 40's for the cpu(39-41), what kind of ball park numbers would i see with a mcp655, mcr220, and a apogee gtx. I know if I load my cpu to 100 I would be in the mid 60's. Right now I have a zalman 9700 and a lot of air flowing through the case +160cfm for both intake and exhaust. Thanks in advance!

wow stock clock and your temps are that high? have you considered lapping your heat sink and cpu? have you tried reseating the heatsink i think those load temps are way to high
Sounds like a bad seat on something, or to much/not enough thermal compound.
As for WC'ing improvement, theoretically(with sufficient radiator) you could get down to ambient room temp. You could go crazy and use the loop to cool a TEC and go even lower.
I think the temps right now are pretty normal with the room at 20c the system is running at 25c, cpu is then at 29-31 range so + 4c to 6c above the system temp for idle is normal is it not? It just jumps higher on the hotter days and was wondering if water cooling would make much of a difference more so at a higher load on the cpu. I know it will make a difference but how much.
Most adequate watercooling rigs will bring you to ambient, but without a chiller your not going to see sub ambient at all.

well i run about the same temps, but i'm at 3.5GHz @ 1.408V and on the Arctic cooling Freezer 7 pro which is lapped as well as the cpu IHS. also my ambient temps are 20-22C. my water cooling should get here tomorrow or thursday so on the weekend i will post a thread about it.
here is my order, simmilar to yours but a bit better.

I just loaded it up for about 10 minutes and it peaked at 51c but adding 5 degrees to the room temp and it will be above 60, so if I do go water I should see a big difference, and can go back up to 3.5 without worries. Looking forward to the results on your rig Spawn-Inc.

WAIT! You haven't mentioned what your using for your CPU cooling. Post your full specs, voltages/case/CPU cooler/ fans/fans in case etc.
WC STARTS at almost 250, and if you only need a better case or CPU cooler it's a big savings....
Hold off
NM, your done already
Looks pretty good, take your time on testing for leaks etc.
Post results nad pics!
Spawn where did you order your parts from? I see you are in Ontario, but did you order from the states?
Is a 320 rad better than a 220?(much difference) or just the capacity to cool is greater?

250$!! if u buy like 3 of all the best :/
I'm currently setting up a system for cpu/gpu for sub 150ish$ (but i cheeted and got some good used stuff ;) )
