Hello guys, Nice to meet you all~

I recently bought a new PC, built it myself, it's my 3rd build within a year. but this is my first attempt at overclocking. I'll start with a list of specs-

Case: Antec 900
Mobo: Asus striker II formula, 780i nvidia chipset
CPU: Intel Q6600 G0 stepping - Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound
CPU cooler: Thermaltake V1 CPU Cooler
Ram: Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX (2x2gb)
PSU: Thermaltake 850W Toughpower Modular
HDD: 320g
GPU: 8600 GTS, soon to be 9800gx2 SLI, or might wait for 9900s release
Bios: 1011

I think thats all of it, I listed everything just incase something was making it hard for me to OC, this is my first time trying to OC a system, so im not 100% what I'm doing yet.

I'll post pictures with my Bios settings here: to many to list myself lol

Idle temp : 30-35c
100% with prime95 : 48-53c

So my problem starts with, in prime95 sometimes my 4th core cuts out after 15-30mins, but not the others, only the 4th.
I run ---in place-large FFTs (max heat/power some ram).

When I finally change my voltages a little and make it stable for an hour or so, I leave it over night/while im at work, but when i come home its either reset/crashed.
I try giving CPU a little more juice, but nothing. I try giving NB/SB a bit, and nothing.
I really not sure how to fix the problem, I cant find the answer in any of the other threads, on any forums.
I've tried using setups from other people that have posted, but they dont seem to be working either. So I'm totally lost.

Any help is welcome, I would love to run at 3.2ghz because I know I should be able to, my airflow and cooling seem fine to get 3.2ghz without a problem.

Thanks in advance!!<3

:welcome: to the forums

Have you tried running it at 3ghz to see if its stable at that speed?

Also, I would keep all your memory settings at default, then once you get a stable OC, you can try lowering them.

Since you were using large fft's its not likely the memory is the problem, but it couldnt hurt to test it with memtest86+

Keep in mind, that one persons settings may not always work for another person with the same equipment.

Read through this thread, if you havent already, it really helped me to OC my quad.

Heya! thanks for the welcome =)

In replay to your post~
I've memtested my RAM @ stock (4-4-4-12 is stock timming btw)
Iv'e ran prime95 at 3ghz for 24h+ without one error, stable at 50-52c.

and yes i have read that, saw it on toms hardware, thats where i learned how to OC really, this is my first time OCing, so its all still new to me.

right now im running at 333x9 @ 1.32v, with 4-4-4-12 timmings, stable as a rock.

also someone lest in another forum said to try 400x8 with 5-5-5-15, vcore 1.45, but i had no luck with that, for some reason my mobo doesnt like been put into an 8multi >< ; ;

How high have you taken the voltage?

One of your bios screens said 1.4, but your cpuz said 1.32, if that cpuz ss was with a 1.4 bios voltage settings, then thats a lot of vdroop to me.

It might be overheating while your at work. Also I think your vC voltage is a little low. you have to compensate for the vDroop.

The screenshot of CPUz and picture of bios were taken at same time.
max vcore i set was 1.45v. but i've kept it at 1.4v since.

And Bloop you really think it can be over heating? im getting a steady 51c 100% load on prime95 after 2hours.
at one point i was thinking it might be the NB? @90c my mobo resets my PC to provent damage. I dont think core temp would be getting higher then 70c even afer 12hours of prime95.
I wouldnt think its the SB either, that temp stays below NB most of the time.

right now, i messed around with bios and running

3.15ghz (350x9) @ 1.4vcore
2.1vmem, @ 5-5-5-15
NB @ 1.46
SB @ 1.5

Im going to leave prime95 large FFT running while i sleep, and see how it goes.

thanks again for all the advance =)

If thats the case, then you have a lot of vdroop, which would cause you to have lower OC ability.

That explains why your cpuz voltage is so low when its at 1.4 in the bios. You may need to up your voltage to 1.45 or 1.5 to see a 1.4v in cpuz. If you do that though, you are getting into dangerous territory at 1.5 or above.

so i was in bed, when i saw my HDD spinning, and i decided to check how prime95 was going, core#3 went red, so i went into the bios and upped my vcore to 1.43, and my NB to 1.5v

should i not be touching NB? just vcore? or am i trying to go to fast at solving this and making it harder to find the problem c.c

The only time you should need to touch the NB, is if you have posting problems or BSOD's. Just leave it at default for now.

Ok so i woke up this morning and my PC didint even respond to reset/off buttons, so i had to turn the switch on PSU lol. bad i know huh >_>

but i got a reply in another forum of changing a few settings, synch my ram, and turn colabiration on.

i took your advice, i lowered my NB, and i kept 1.4vcore. with 5-5-5-15 timmings on ram.

running prime95 for around 3-4 hours without one error, running at 55c (hottest core) 47c (coolest core)

ill leave it going over night and ill get back to you guys. you have no idea how thankful i am for the help!! ^.^
