I have gotten the run around with the local dsl companies, they say they can service me and here 5 months after attempting to get high speed internet, i am still using dial up. Cable is not offered in my area either. Was wondering if anyone is using the satellite internet service? and if so how do you like it?

My friend did. It's "ok" download, about 20-28 K/s, but the upload, you have to use your phone line, it's suck big time. It's like using your dile up, but good thing you going only 1 way.
So, it's bether then dile up, but worst then DSL.
Good luck :)
A co-worker has looked into satellite internet and there are apparently new dishes that both transmit and receive. The down side is that they are extremely expensive right now. Supposedly within the next 2-3 years they will become more available and affordable.
I have had Starband since March 8 of last year. While it’s fast when it works, it has been an absolute nightmare. I have three to four service outages per day. Streaming audio and video do not work. HTTP and “The page cannot be displayed” errors abound, particularly when replying to a UBB type forum. FTP uploads suck do to packet loss. I have over 80 hours in phone time with tech support. There are 38 open issues in my over 40 page tech file. Their repair techs don’t show up for scheduled appointments and when they do, they don’t have the parts they need. My advice would be to stick with dialup.
If you still want to consider a satellite based ISP, check the UseNet BBS and Starband Users (http://www.starbandusers.com) . It’s well worth paying the $15 membership fee at Starband Users to access their forums. Also be warned that Starband has issues with Via chipsets.
Note, I have had several "The system detected HTTP Error Invalid Request while attempting to retrieve the URL" messages while trying to reply to this thread!
