View Full Version : Which Radiator? (issues)
Okay, so I would like to watercool a new PC, with a 120x3 rad mounted on the top spots of a Cosmos S. The issue is it doesn't support the PA 120.3 or the MCR320.Note: This will be a low-med fan flow setup.
This leaves me with the black ice radiators. I had my eye on the black ice pro III, but apparently (I can't find it in stock) it isn't available in Canada for who knows how long.
So my options are:
-Find it in Canada (ie. didn't look hard enough/ special order)
-Buy it in the US.
-Buy a black ice replacement (may be the Stealth?)
-Mod the case to support either the PA 120.3 or MCR 320 (may be)
-Change cases to support the PA 120.3 or MCR 320 (extension of above)

Hey Micmal, I haven't the time to go looking - but from personal experience - NCIX.com is good for watercooling parts, or try Sidewindercomputers.com - Gary Stofer runs it, nice fellow, very good service (I sent in an inquiry at 1am and got an answer back within an hour!). Prices are reasonable, and it only took 3 business days shipping.
I was looking at the Cosmos S but went for the Antec 1200 (still giving me troubles with trynig to mount the rad though). Like hom3r said - Do you know why it won't fit? Maybe it's something quite innocuous that can be remedied quite easily.
I would also force the case to "support" the rad of your choise.
I pic would be very helpful.
For a low-med airflow fan setup, these two rads are top notch

Why are you restricted to purchasing a Black Ice (or similar computer-watercooling oriented contemporary) radiator?
Sure, they're made to easily accomodate 120mm fans and case mounting, but they're also way overpriced, and lemony underperformers compared to more.... classic.... alternatives.
You can pick up a Caprice heatercore or similar for $20 at a used car parts depot, homebrew mounting hardware for $4 at home depot, buy some shrouds from dangerden (or attempt to make your own), slap on a couple of 120mm fans, and have yourself a beastly heat exchanger for a fraction of the cost. Not as aesthetically pleasing, and a fair amount more work to install and outfit with shrouds, but way more economical and rewarding...
Just thought I'd toss that out there :)
Thank you for all the info, and advice. I have decided to half risk it, and get an MCR320. If it fits, good, if it doesn't then I'll mod it. And for those who asked, it has to do with the fan spacing (15mm), so it's a simple mod.
Also, with regards to the heater cores, I would like an internal system, that can fit into a case with ease. This is my first watercooling setup, and I'd like to start small and simple, and hopefully later, try more advanced setups and may be even double loops.
