Hey,
I recently got Corsair's 750W psu, and to my suprise when the power went off my APC ups didn't make a sound (the overload sound i mean) but the computer simply turned off.
My APC model is 350VA, which i guess is about 200W so i doubt i have exceeded that, because the system was idle (Core2 in my sig).
It is about 7-8 years old... so maybe that cound be tha case?
Anyways, i realised i should probably buy a new one, and Belkin is a lot cheaper that similar models from APC, so does anyone here know if they're OK?
I actually never heard of them before now...
And i'm looking at 1000VA (550W) or 1200VA(670W) models... so should they be enough for my system not to shut down?
Or is the problem the PSU itself... i mean that it doesn't like UPSes?? because the USP worked just fine for a few minutes on my old Fortron 500W blue storm, even on full load (okay sometimes :D )...
Oh well,
Thanx
Tom.

you are beyond capacity for that 350va
i am using a 750va and its not enough to handle my system. im about to move to a 1500va and call it good
You sure you had it plugged into the battery protected plug? If I recall that APC has both battery and surge plugs.
Personally I would stick with APC for battery units.
Its also possible the battery just doesnt hold a charge. 7 years is really long for a UPS.. Usually 2-3 years is all they last.

Yeah, but i was suprised that it worked OK on my BlueStorm?? could the PSU brought in so much more "load" on the UPS?

Yeah... i have the same cable plugged in the same port as with my old PSU which worked :)
And about the model and power... i would really like to use APC, but the reason i'm asking is that an APC 1000VA UPS costs about 440$ here, the next model APC - 1500VA goes for about 980$... while the Belkin 1200VA costs 210$...
So the Belkin one is already about 30% more expensive than i payed for the PSU itself :D
Now my question is, is the Belkin brand OK, will it be on the approximate same performance level as APC? or should i just save up, and spend a ton of money on APC?
Also, will 1200VA be enough, or do i have to look for something even more powerfull?
You should be fine for anything 800 and above. I have a 1000 myself with lots plugged into it and it will last a good 5 minutes with no power. All you really need is a few minutes on battery.
As for belkin, i have never used their UPS devices so no idea how they are.

Belkin is fine. I prefer APC for quality reasons, but I did have a Belin fail under warranty and was given a brand new updated model 100% hassle free. The replacement and its' two brothers are working just fine.
My APC is about 8 months old and the light for the display has dies. The UPS is just fine though so I don't sweat it.
I wouldn't touch Cyber power though. I hear bad things WRT to them.

Okay... i actually just found a 700VA APC for about 220$... so maybe even that would be enough...
I'm guessing that APC is the 1st name in USP market... so i guess they're the best, but the prices!!
I read somewhere that the Corsair PSU i have did make some problems with certain UPSes... so could that be the thing?

Yeah, i have this APC for like 7-8 years and it still worked great... when i get a new one, i'll just reuse it to power my TV in case of blackouts :D :D
And my choice is only between Belkin and APC...

If you go to IT forums and see what pros like, APC is towards the bottom of the list. Belkin is fine and my two units (1200VA & 1000VA) are working fine. The 1200VA unit is several years old and I've replace the batteries and it still runs fine. I paid less than $100 shipped for each one at half price with a promo code of 12345 but it looks like it no longer works.
When I buy another UPS soon, it won't be APC.

Im an IT PRO and I swear by them. In fact our entire company uses them from desktops to our database servers :)

Most of the guys I've talked with swore at APC.
YMMV

200+ Cyberpower units in the field to date and not a single failure. Their battery quality is excellent (they typically outlast APC units with a similar VA rating) and their AVR circuitry is some of the best in the business. I currently use a 1500AVR that is 4+ years old and will still power the monster in my sig + all our network gear for 20+ minutes.
Belkin, Tripp-Lite and Cyberpower all make good quality units and are a good value. APC's quality is comparable, but IMHO, you're paying a substantial premium for a name.

Okay, that was my 1st concern... the quality, because i never heard of them before...
I kind of figured that you pay a lot of money for just the name of APC, so i guess i'll go and get the 1000VA Belkin first. If its not enough, i'll replace it with a 1200VA. No sense in paying more $ for the 1200VA version, since i only need it to work for a minute to shut everything down :)

Never had one issue with APC. Their products are reliable, and support is second to none, from what I have experienced. More expensive? Yes, but you get what you pay for, which is quality and support.

I would contend that APC quality and customer service are on par with that of Cyberpower, Belkin and tripp-lite, based on personal experience (all 3 are quite good). That said, given all factors are equal, purchasing an APC power supply equates to paying for a name.
